FROM TOP RATED TO TOURIST TRAP 🤦🏼♂️ Everyone has a bad day... Sad to have a bad meal from a former top rated restaurant but life's too short for a bad experience at these prices.
My friends came in from New York and asked where would you like to have our final meal before we leave for Boston after visiting us. So I said Bowman's wharf! The best restaurant in town.
I was so embarrassed.
The food, the service, the quality, the attitudes... I ended up paying for the check after fighting with my friends who insisted on buying us dinner for their last night. I said "you don't deserve to pay for this and I won't have it!!"
I've never been in prison, thank God But if I were to have lobster bisque in prison... I would think this is the way it would taste. Horrible.
I took two spoonfuls (of course the second spoonful out of respect for the restaurant I always loved) thinking I must've hit my head in the tub... I pushed the bowl to the end of the bar. I don't know a worse word for "horrible" but that's the first word that came to mind. No dinner for me last night.
My wife had fish and my friends had steak at my recommendation. I ordered lobster bisque, and a Caesar salad.
I paid for everyone's meals Out of embarrassment after I told everyone, this is the best restaurant in town. A complete embarrassment. It was like as if it was the first day for the cooks, the chefs, the sous chefs, and the bartenders.
It would take a lot for me to go back after that night, but frankly, I wouldn't go back if they gave it to me for free.
I don't care about cost. Everyone was paid and tipped for the last time.my focus is on quality and Hospitality. this was low-grade tourist food tonight. I should have went to The Clarke Cooke House or The White Horse Tavern or Gardiners House. It's high-end restaurant experience at the stage of my life or nothing.
I'm not tourist in Newport. I live here. I don't need tourist food.
Since being a Mortgage banking for 42 years, I've eaten at the best restaurants. Before mortgage banking, I worked in a restaurant as chefs apprentice until I was 20 and also owned a restaurant. My background is an Italian Sicilian foodie and make it a point to find & brag about great food and service. Very rare to give a bad review. I think I know good food.
A clean restroom usually indicates a clean kitchen. They have a...
Read moreGetting two stars only because the food we ordered was delicious (although they could dress up the $100 A5 Miyazaki Wagyu flight a little bit more than just putting three pieces of meat on a plate with some watercress). We had a great experience at the host stand and interacting with other employees on our way to the table. Unfortunately, this is where the service ceased to be great, or even good for that matter. Our server asked if we would like some water to which we replied, that would be great, thank you. We waited for 10+ minutes before he returned only to ask us “did I not get you water?“ It only went downhill from there. The water came and my wife ordered a Coke, he did not even ask me if I wanted a drink. The soda came back, and as he started to turn away, I stopped him so I could order my drink. When my drink made it to the table we ordered our appetizers and I asked a question about the meal I was planning to order and how it was plated, as well as ordering a glass of wine I planned to pair with my $100+ entrée. We did not see our server again until our appetizers were finished. At that point we ordered our entrées and started our wait once again. Needless to say the attentiveness was lacking, although we saw him being very friendly with every other table in our section, attending to them multiple times, before he asked us how our food was, how everything was going, can I get you anything? As a matter of fact, I do not think he asked us how our food was until we were almost finished. The entrées arrived and, very shortly there after, so did our server asking how everything looked. We said everything looked great but we haven’t tasted it yet. He then disappeared for at least 15 minutes attending to all the other tables in the section again (some tables multiple visits) before finally coming back to us and asking how everything was. This is when I got to remind him about my glass of wine I wanted to have with my meal. He returned with the wine but no apology again. We finished our meal and left thinking that maybe we did something wrong to deserve the cold shoulder he was giving us. But, unfortunately, it was just a case of really, really, terrible service which is even more disheartening because we saw others right next to us getting what seemed like fantastic service from the...
Read moreOur recent dining experience at 22 Bowen’s Wine Bar & Grille in Newport, Rhode Island, was nothing short of exceptional, and I can’t wait to share why this gem at Bowen’s Wharf deserves a glowing review. From the moment we arrived, the vibrant yet welcoming atmosphere set the tone for a memorable late lunch. Despite the restaurant being bustling with guests, the hostess promptly greeted us with a warm smile and swiftly escorted us to a beautifully set table overlooking the picturesque harbor. The view alone was a treat, with the gentle sparkle of the water and boats in the marina creating a quintessential Newport ambiance. Our waiter, Filipe, was an absolute delight, attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable, he made us feel like valued guests from the start. We began our meal with a selection of fresh oysters, which were impeccably shucked and brimming with briny, ocean-fresh flavor. Next came the lobster bisque, which was nothing short of divine. The soup was velvety, creamy, and bursting with rich lobster essence, with a generous portion that felt indulgent yet perfectly balanced. It’s easily one of the best bisques we’ve ever tasted. For our main course, we opted for 22 Bowen’s famous fish and chips, and it did not disappoint. I was initially concerned about the dish being heavy or greasy, as fried foods can sometimes be, but I was pleasantly surprised. The fish was perfectly cooked, encased in a light, crispy batter that was flavorful without a hint of excess oil. The fries were golden and crisp, complementing the fish beautifully. Every bite was a testament to the kitchen’s skill and commitment to quality. The entire experience, from the seamless service to the outstanding food and stunning harbor views, made our afternoon unforgettable. 22 Bowen’s captures the essence of Newport’s charm while delivering a dining experience that exceeds expectations. We’re already looking forward to our next visit and wholeheartedly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Newport. Whether you’re a local or a tourist, 22 Bowen’s is a must visit for an impeccable meal in an unbeatable setting. Five stars...
