Where do I begin? When my friends and I sat down, we soon felt a slow but steady stream of water drip on our heads from above. Upon realizing that a.) it was a sunny day out and b.) we were inside, we determined that the cause of the mid-day precipitation was a leaky pipe. Now, pipes do, in fact, leak from time to time. The problem, though, was the lack of a timely and proper response to this issue. After a while, our hipster waitress briefly delayed the problem by drying the pipe with a rag, though it continued to drip. Our menus arrived, and, though a tad pricey, the food sounded pretty good. We were, however, in for our next big surprise. Economists consider price to be a subjective measure of value, meaning that something may be worth x dollars to Person A but only 0.90x dollars to Person B. Typically, the difference in value tends to not be so substantial at restaurants and other venues where customer service plays a large role in the survival of the business. At this restaurant, there seems to be a notable dissonance between PRICE and VALUE. Take a look at the picture I provided of the biscuits. Care to hazard a guess as to what those TWO biscuits cost at this establishment? The answer is a stunning $12 (and they weren't that tasty). The rest of the food was similar regarding its price-value relationship. Begrudgingly, the three of us prepared to pay the $60 (!!!!) bill for our subpar food that came mostly on paper plates. As we took out our wallets, we asked the waitress to split the bill three ways, so we could each pay for our own food with our own credit cards. At this point, we were told that she "wasn't allowed to" split the bill. What does this even mean? All around, this was pretty much a mess.

The Wharf Pub & Restaurant used to be one of my favorite places on Bowen’s Wharf, but the service and food have moved down a notch over my last two visits. Let’s start with the space: the restaurant is still a really unique spot in Newport. In the summer months there’s a rustic covered patio outside that’s a nice refuge from the crush of people. In the winter months, you can move inside to a darker space that makes you feel like you’re inside a colonial tall ship. Beyond that, the service has gone downhill from my first visit. (First visit was great too.) The last time I went, the restaurant was nearly empty and we had a reservation for two. Instead of giving us a booth they put us a a high top right on top of a large group of 6 people. I asked to move right away and the hostess took care of it promptly, but giving your guests more space when the restaurant isn’t busy is a no-brainer. The waitress we had was slow and never came back to see if we needed anything. The kitchen was slow which didn’t make sense either given that the restaurant was nearly empty on a cold Sunday. Finally, the ahi tuna in my sandwich was overcooked. The truffle tots were good, but that’s the only thing they consistently do well here. If you go, know that it’s going to be hit or miss.

I rarely give bad reviews, but this is just the case. It started with the service - the restaurant was almost empty, but we had to wait for anyone from the staff to pay attention to us, to be seated. I had to go upstairs to find someone to ask for it. And only when another lady after us did the same - a girl appeared and seated both parties. Meanwhile she exhibited clear annoyance 🤔 . Meanwhile we noticed 3 other staff members chatting or hanging out yawning on the stairs. So this is clearly not the case of being understaffed, but bad management. They have a good selection of drafts, and that added 1 star to the rating. As for the food it was average at best. The kids cheeseburger was plain inedible - overcooked, even hard to bite! Lobster roll had plenty of flavor but too little lobster meat and the meat was somehow too crunchy and chewy. Definitely not worth $30. My fish and chips was so-so. Although I really liked the sauce it couldn't compensate for the blandness of the fish. The best part was their clam chowder - quite original, plenty of salmon and smokiness from bacon.

I’ve never had to do this. We moved here in 2022 and this place was my absolute favorite. I’m a creature of habit so in the 15+ times we’ve been I’ve gotten the chicken sandwhich each time. The last two visit have been a joke in a constant decline the past year of so. The chicken is lost because all You get is bun. The chicken skins have become husks of their former selves. The service has been horrendous, and I say that as someone who also works in the industry. Didn’t matter the time of day of season. The only decent thing still is the bartending. Wish I took a picture of my sandwhich. Did get a picture of the dessert. The scoop of ice cream was bigger than the slice of pie. If you’re going to charge me $100 for apps, drinks, entrees, and dessert, then give me my monies worth. I’ll pay more to actually eat. Such a disappointment to a place i would brag about and being out of town family.

Smoked wings! Say no more. I will definitely add this place in my “Top 10 best wings list in US”. The meat was soft and a bit juicy while the skin was crunchy but not greasy and you could smell and taste that smokiness in each bite. I asked for a bit of sauce as a side, the sauce that is added to the wings is enough to give that inch of flavour without removing the one acquired while being smoked. In my opinion this was a good choice to add more of sauce if I wanted, however as the way they are cooked it is just tasty. I didn’t have the chicken w/waffle but I must say that it looks pretty good and fulfilling, my friend said that it was. Their amaretto sour made my night or it actually started it. I was not sure if I wanted to try this drink with the egg white (I know this is how it has to be prepared) nevertheless I was delighted with every sip.
