The aroma from this place is AMAZING!
This was the only night we didn’t have reservations and we ended up here. I’m glad we did! I’m so over seafood 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Atmosphere, staff and seating (we sat outside was Devine. When we were walking out some idiot thought it would be a great idea to smoke right outside the dining area.
Their pineapple vodka was great but had hard bite to it as if it was cheap vodka, not smooth like Goose Pear / Orange.
I have never had a hog wing before and it was juicy and delicious!
Their corn bread fell apart it your hands and felt more like cake to me but good.
My wife enjoyed her shrimp cocktail!
We got their platter which consisted of
2 Hog Wings 4 Chicken Wings 1/2 Rack of Ribs Came with 2 sides we got Mac and Cheese and of course French Fries.
Plan was after the platter we would order what we like but we were full!
2 hot wings were out of the world! Nothing I have ever experienced and when we go back home we will look for local butchers who supply that cut of meat
Chicken wings were crispy!
Ribs fell off the bone.
Their home made BBQ sauce has a little kick to it!
We will be back!
Not important but our cheapest meal here at Newport! The only place we have been that we spent less than $100 for the two of us
WE ARE BACK
8/16/25
Our second time and zero regrets!
Our eyes were bigger than our stomachs and I felt terrible leaving so much on the table as there was NO ROOM!
Those nachos can feed a table of 4 AND IF YOU ADD A PROTEIN TO IT, it’s a meal in itself!
We saw another table with the nachos with a protein on it and they were eating a salad. Smart!
Us…not so much 🤣
We got their nachos as an app with no protein and it came with a guacamole induced sour cream which was Devine!
Of course we got their trio of ribs, chicken and brisket We also got their lobster roll which was made to perfection which is a feat in itself
Sides were mac and cheese and cornbread which is always...
Read more*Update (next afternoon) The Brisket that I didnt eat at Smokehouse due it not being as amazing as I thought would be coming from Newport Restaurant Group, actually reheated pretty good. Was shocked. So I updated this from a 3.5 to a 4. Id like to try this out again to see if NRG can make it a 4.5 to a 5.
**Original---Coming from Newport Restaurant Group that trumps with places like The Mooring, Hemingways and 22 Bowens Wharf....I expected humongous things from this bbq place. With a name like Smokehouse and as stated above, some serious Restaurant Credentials, then this place should serve ridiculously good BBQ fare. Well it wasnt that. It was ok. And I was saddened. I was waiting for the pink ring on my Brisket like a little kid at Christmas...waiting and waiting for it to come to me...and when It did there was no pink ring. It was browned through and through. No way to cook brisket. It was cooked as you or I would cook a steak on a grill if someone ordered it well done. I was very sad and took the whole thing home. If you are looking for a great place to hang out on the street in Newport then you picked a good place. They have good nachos, great Buffalo wings and a good selection of beers. And if this wasn't part of such a power house lineup of restaurants then maybe my expectations wouldn't have been so high, but since I know what I've come to expect from those other above named restaurants and a name like Smokehouse I'm expecting phenomenal barbecue, and this place does not deliver phenomenal barbecue...which is sad because the potential is there with their restaurant pedigree. It should be called Sam's BBQ. Not smokehouse. Smokehouse and Newport Restaurant Group makes people expect phenomenal BBQ and on that it did not deliver. Check pics for Brisket... wish we could have had real good Brisket. Still...
Read moreNew to town and need a spot?
First off they got a thick a burger and you know what that means, it's harder to cook "right" (I'm trying not to use the word well for good reason)... and gosh darn it they did it. End to end cooked great.
However, that's not my thing. I would rather have a little less burger meat, maybe a little more pork , maybe another onion ring. I ordered coleslaw on the side to add. (I ended up with that and fries, Thank you!). Funny thing is that I liked their sweet and what not sauce better than their tangy and I'm normally a tangy guy.
Nonetheless, the staff was friendly. The environment was great for me as someone just visiting. Although, it seems like the stools were in short demand and the chairs with back were in higher demand, and I must say that after spending hours trying to figure out where I would be best suited to eat... it would've been nice to lean back a bit.
If I make it back out to this area (and I wouldn't mind doing so), this spot would be somewhere for me to check out. So I can only give four stars out of preference (my own that is in that there's many great things/places out there, and it takes at least two visits typically to get 5, 4 is like hey I don't hate you, but this could be a one-off so I'm willing to write, the other side man I have to hate you to write), but they got all the ingredients (and maybe for others) to be a...
