This is an absolutely phenomenal card shop.
My girlfriend and I were in Newport this past March and had a little downtime, so we searched for card shops in the area (yes, she did this willinglyâshe collects too. I know, sheâs incredible). We found PB Collectibles a few blocks from where we were staying. When we started the walk, I had no idea it would become one of my favorite core memories.
I loved the shop from the moment I saw the exterior: small, quaint, with a brick façade right in the heart of Newport. Itâs one street over from Thamesâfar enough to avoid the chaos but close enough for true collectors. Inside, it felt cozy and intimate. When we arrived, an older gentleman was chatting with the owner, Paul, about an â86ââ87 Fleer basketball set. My girlfriend and I waited our turn, flipping through the dollar boxes (which she loves to do).
Once the gentleman left, Paul turned to us with a genuine smileâthe kind that makes you feel instantly welcome. We ended up talking for three hours about everything from sports to life. The conversation was rich, engaging, and effortless. By the time we left for dinner reservations, I knew it was the highlight of the entire trip.
It wasnât just the best card shop experience Iâve hadâit was one of the best experiences Iâve EVER had. All my stress melted away, and Paul made us feel like family or like reconnecting with an old friend.
So while PB Collectibles doesnât have walls of wax or mountains of singles, it trades the commercialization of the hobby for authenticity (at about 70% of comps, lol).
Do yourself a favor and check it out. Itâll remind you why this hobby...
Read moreCool little shop. The owner Paul is super friendly and has an awesome collection of vintage and modern singles, a lot of them graded. Not much in the sealed wax department as most of the shop is dedicated to single cards but he had a few boxes of (mostly retail) modern basketball and a decent amount of baseball/football/hockey. You can tell he's a collector and not just in it strictly for the money by talking to him which I found to be awesome, that's a rarity these days.
His single prices are a bit on the high end which is understandable as the market has trended heavily downward in the past few months. He was quick to look up recent comps on eBay so if you're interested in a card it seems like he'll try to give you a fair deal. His selection of cards is really well curated so if you're looking for iconic cards like '03 Chrome Lebron, Kobe rookies, 1980 Topps Bird/Magic/Dr. J's, '86 Fleer MJ's, etc. you're in for treat. He also had a nice selection of Zion and Ja stuff if you're looking for ultra modern. I'm not a big baseball collector but I know enough to know that his vintage baseball card collection is tremendous as well.
This place is a gem and one of the better shops that I've been to on...
