I had the worst experience of my life at this place. From the moment you walk in, you can feel an incredibly negative vibe. The bartender, a tall and rude guy, was not only arrogant but blatantly racist. This was my first time encountering such overt racism, and it was shocking and deeply upsetting. It’s sad to think that a place with “International” in its name treats people from different backgrounds with such disrespect. If you’re Latino or Spanish, avoid this place at all costs. IYAC isn't for everyone, but when you just need a beer with some sailing buddies or a honkey tonk to catch the game, it fits the bill every time. People that are saying the beer is expensive might be comparing it to beer prices at a bar in Woonsocket, but this is Newport; the Athletic Club's beverage prices are right in the middle of the range. After reading these comments, I just had to chime in.

First off, if you are a sailor, this is your home away from home. You’ll meet other sailors with fantastic stories.

Secondly, if you are not use to the ball busting style of a RI bar tender, don’t come here. You won’t understand. (Hence the reviews from “out of towners.”). But, if you have a backbone and a respectful, yet smart mouth, you will be right at home.
