Dumpling House is a great hidden gem in a little strip mall on Walnut street in Newton. There was plenty of parking. Restaurant appeared very clean. Staff was friendly. The menu is huge. Mostly authentic Chinese dishes. Not your typical American style Chinese food. The food tasted extremely fresh and full of flavor. I started with a small hot and sour soup with shredded pork. It was large enough for two people. Very traditionally prepared with wood ear mushrooms, golden needles, tofu, pork, scallions. It had a very nice complex flavor with a big kick that would clear out anyone's sinuses. Soup was delicious! My first appetizer was the jellyfish with garlic. This was like a salad with the jellyfish cut in thin strips with a solid but not chewy texture. The dish also had cucumbers, carrots, sesame seeds and plenty of garlic. Delicious! Next I had one of my favorites appetizers. Crispy fried pig intestines! If you have never had this, step outside your box. The outside is crispy with a texture like bacon and the inside is a soft moist delicious pork flavor. This dish is amazing! For my entrée I had to go with the pork and crab soup dumplings. These were full of soup, flavor and makes the whole trip worth it! Soooo good! If you are looking for quality food that's different from the American PuPu platter, check this place out. I can't wait to go back!

Soup dumplings! Soup dumplings! I go here every week, they have the best soup dumplings that melt in your mouth. It’s the right comfort food for New England winter. Minced chicken corn soup, kung pao chicken, fried rice and the Taiwanese noodles are great too. Small restaurant with 10 tables, you might have to wait a few minutes to get seated, during peak times. Wait staff is friendly and attentive. There is a 10% cash discount when you spend more than $50.

Some of the best Chinese food I've had in all my travels. The dumplings are simply epic: The fillings are rich and flavorful. The dough is thick and chewy, with a mouthfeel like gnocchi. The fried rice is made to order. Freshly sliced/grated garlic is used. Spicy dishes are actually spicy. The list goes on. Bottom line: Eat here, and order dumplings. Epic Fail!

We ordered take-out…fried dumplings, chicken fried rice, sesame chicken, sliced beef Szechuan style.

The dumplings were pretty good. Everything else was inedible…took two bites and threw it out. The sesame chicken was rubbery. The sliced beef had a decent sauce but the beef itself had zero taste…it had not been seasoned in any way. Ditto for the chicken fried rice…it had chunks of chicken with zero taste.

Just to top it off, no rice was included with the Szechuan beef (usually it is included auto automatically) and no chopsticks were included.

I cannot believe this place has...

Once in a while I have a craving from my childhood and thats' bitter melon and because no one else in my family will eat this, I go to Dumpling House. I have it as a stir fried dish with a protein. It is delicious, slightly different to how I had it growing up (we had it with black bean sauce). But this is just as delicious, not as bitter (slightly sweet) and not garlicky at all. It certainly satisfies my craving. Only negative is that it doesn't come with rice and one has to order that separately. Service is efficient, friendly and timely. I'll continue to...
