The Caketeria — Restaurant in Newtown

My husband and I ordered a recreation of the top tier of our wedding cake for our first anniversary. Beth was great to work with to coordinate details of the cake. We found The Caketeria to be a really nice little shop with some really nice looking cakes and cupcakes. The cake we received was a great recreation! We were pleased. The cake tasted fine, but we didn't find it to be anything spectacular. It actually ended up tasting better as the days went on. The buttercream frosting was very smooth and sweet, but I wish it had more of a rich butter flavor. Unfortunately, on our fourth night of having a slice (we would split one slice each night), I ended up hearing an egg shell crack between my teeth. Pretty gross, but it seemed small, so I kept eating. The next night, I was eating some frosting, and I heard another crunch. This time I took the "crunchy" piece out of my mouth, and I saw yet another egg shell. This time, it was about the size of half of a dime. My husband told me to stop eating the cake, but I was almost finished. On my last bite, I heard another crunch and found a third piece of egg shell! It was smaller than the second shell, but still very visible. We have three slices of cake left, but I'm really quite skeptical about eating the rest of it for fear of more egg shells. We have been coming back to The Caketeria since we moved to the area 3 years ago and are NEVER disappointed. The cupcakes are fluffy and filled and they have some vegan options as well!

They did an outstanding job with our son's first birthday cake, came out exactly as the picture we found on Pinterest and tasted like a dream (chocolate chip pound cake with fudge filling oh yumm)

Would highly recommend and look forward to using them for our future events

UPDATE 7/20/20 Beth and her team did an amazing job again! Celebrating this year was a bit different but the sweet stuff stayed the same.

Personal strawberry butter cream smash cake for the birthday boy to blow out his candle. Construction theme of course. (I supplied the toys and cupcake toppers). Chocolate chip cupcakes FILLED with ganache were perfect. We got so many compliments from our guests on how moist the cake was and that the buttercream was to die for (not too sweet, light and delicious). Also on theme ;)

Update 7/2022 Thank you again Beth and team for creating our cake/cupcakes as we imagined. The cake topper, cupcake liners, and cake tower I supplied from amazon. The small cake was marble+canoli cream...

So, I've passed this place a million times and always wanted to stop in but it was always closed. Finally with a day off I headed in and sampled some sweets. Needless to say I was underwhelmed. The place is cute looking, but looks can be deceiving. The cupcakes I had were really dry and the icing was sickeningly sweet. It was not a good combination. Some of the cupcakes tasted like they were from scratch, but some tasted very chemically. I kept thinking that with every bite that maybe it would get better. But it didn't. The chocolate cake is really rich and dense, you definitely need a big drink with it. The cream cheese icing also tasted kind of sour, or like it had been sitting out or something. I couldn't even finish the cupcake I tried and my kids maybe took two bites of theirs. I picked up a sugar cookie and it was kind of hard. Also everything is very expensive, at least 20 dollars over what a cake at another bakery would cost, and that was with very minimal decorations. I would be willing to pay if the quality was there, but unfortunately...
