So it wasn't the worst...but it wasn't the best. I wish I could give a 2 1/2 rating becuase thats how average it was.
We went for mother's day and it was not as busy as one might expect. It was a 2:15 reservation and we weren't seated until about 2:30.
It was a brunch menu that focused mostly on the breakfast side of things. But at almost 3:00 I was completely over breakfast so my choices were few.
We ordered Dutch pancakes with lemon curd and biscuits to share at the table. It took almost 30 mins for the Dutch pancakes and almost 45 min for the biscuits to arrive.
The pancakes were...little puffs of air, the texture was nice, but absolutely no flavor what so ever. The lemon curd however was delightful.
They were nice enough to wave the biscuits off the bill since they took so long. Which was a really nice gesture I have to say.
The biscuits themselves were...tiny, petite, little, smol...and they were cheddar and chive flavored. But the flavored didn't pop and I could taste the flour.
My father got a blt, with really nice b, l, and t the bread however was under toasted.
My mother got chicken and waffle. The chicken breading had a nice spice to it. The meat itself was cold. The waffle was flavorless.
My daughter got a chocolate waffle. Which went uneaten due to the chalky texture off the waffle.
My husband got a burger with fried egg, and bacon on it. Which was really delicious.
I myself had the steak frites. The steak was cooked to perfection but was another thing that can be added to the list of things without flavor. The fries were just weird. They had a stale texture like they had been sitting out, but they were still hot.
The coffee we had was excellent
The waiter was nice and service was good.
Most of the food we were served just missed the mark. Will go back and try dinner sometime
Could have just been an off day
All in all a...
Read moreFirst time here and we enjoyed it! We came for brunch on a Sunday and Used OpenTable the day before which was smart because they do get busy. It’s in a nice area and easy to get to. It is a small place and cozy. Music was playing quietly so it was comfortable to talk and not have to yell. Service was quick upon entering and gracious. Our server was efficient and quick also, but not so quick that he seemed to pressure us to “move it along”. He gave us some good ordering options and brought our drinks out first giving us more time to peruse the menu and make choices. We didn’t have to order our entire food order at one time which we prefer. We started with the breakfast biscuits with the honey butter. It was delivered with the butter and a small bowl of gravy. The “biscuits” were more like cheese & chive popovers and they were wonderful! We lived the taste with the honey butter ; a mix of sweet and savory. We tried the gravy, but it was bland; thin & no flavor. If you are looking for peppery cream-type gravy, this is not it. The breakfast burrito is huge! Brisket is tender and shredded. Presentation was beautiful. The eggs Benedict with bacon was good.My poached eggs soft to order, but the hollandaise was not savory. It needed could more acid, Dijon mustard, & cayenne pepper; tasted more like a thin lemon curd. It was not savory. The bacon was crisp and not greasy. The “smashed” breakfast potatoes were okay. Some were thick & cold inside and the skin wasn’t crisped; however, smaller pieces were hot and crispy. The overall flavors could have been enhanced with a little wave of pepper and salt as it brings flavor out of all ingredients. We will try lunch and dinner and hope to taste more flavor in the items we choose. Lovely place, very good service by all, and plenty of...
Read moreMy wife and I visited this place a few years ago when it was "The Coach House," and we didn't like it much. It's rebranded now as "The Hutch on Avondale," presumably new kitchen and what-not, and it's really changed.
The fried artichoke was rather tasty as a shared appetizer, paired with Cava and a "seasonal negroni" that was CLEAR . . . (still not even closely familiar with the genesis of this beverage, but it was good). My wife had tomato soup and a Caesar for supper (soup was average-plus, but the Caesar was tasty). I had the duck confit, and it was tasty, though I wasn't really excited about it in the end, though the portion size was great -- not too much, and not too little. It's not the normal Oklahoma-style restaurant that most places in this state are -- pile the plate high with average fare, and it's "a good deal." This was thoughtfully portioned and a lovely plate.
Where the real surprise for us was the desserts. We got crême brûlée paired with in-house baked confections and a key lime pie with blueberry-ginger compote. This portion of the menu is ridiculously on-point, and we, two avocational cooks and bakers, were blown away. Two ounces of XO cognac, BTW, was only $13!!!! Crazy.
This place is great, but it's curious that their duck plate wasn't the shining beacon of gastronomy that I feel the bookends of the meal leaned toward. Oh well. We're going to return. It's good.
John [sic] was a great server, patiently working with our picky tastes and questions and asking questions of the other staff when he didn't...
