Dinner on a Saturday night made reservations over the phone for 6PM. Upon arrival we thought they were closed as parking lot was empty. The restaurant was quite empty inside with 20 or so other diners coming and going during dinner.
Menu was decently sized and sounded good. Although they serve some dishes with one meatball only which is golf ball sized. Prices seemed fair. I ordered Chicken San Giorgio (chicken with peppers, mushroom and a port sauce) while my wife had shrimp fettuccine with a garlic aioli. Wife ordered wedding soup and I had salad with Italian dressing. I also was given the choice of a side. I ordered risotto as I love a quality risotto.
Bread was served and was disappointing. Bland, cold, no flavor. Whipped butter that accompanied was ok. My salad arrived with the oddest Italian dressing I have ever seen. It was orange nearly red. Wedding soup came and was thin on ingredients. My salad was good and fresh, and the dressing was good. The soup unfortunately was mostly broth with three tiny meatballs and some noodles/spinach. Portion is way too small.
The food came out 7 mins after salads/soups for a large party of people. Huge red flag. This means what is being served is not cooked to order and is mostly like bulk cooked and reheated as necessary. My chicken dish looked awful. Sloppy and unappetizing. I could see the risotto was also clearly a mistake. It was served on a 5" side plate and held a rough square shape. It looked like it was scooped from a hotel pan and directly onto the plate. My wife's pasta was swimming in watery aioli with a large mound of pasta/and some shrimp on top.
The risotto is not good. Flavor is ok but creamy/buttery is the only note. It was cooked to oblivion, rice was mush. My chicken dish was much like it looked, messy. No flavor. Sauce was thin and greasy. Peppers/mushrooms on top were greasy, mushy, and unseasoned. Chicken was a half breast cut into 3 small pieces. No seasoning or browning on chicken. This was boiled and looked strange. Squishy on outside and dry on inside. The pasta my wife had was overcooked and shrimp were fine. Her aioli was too thin to taste much besides some garlic.
We talked to the waitress about the dishes and confirmed most if not everything is precooked and heated as needed. Although she was adamant that all risotto are firm and stand like theirs when served correctly. The table next to us also was unhappy with the quality of food.
The rest of our party had a mixed review. Some thought the food was fine others not so much. I find it disappointing that they treat their food like catering and prepare too much off the menu in advance. I will give them another chance in the future to see if...
Read moreWaitress was nice and did a great job explaining the menu. She was the best part of the experience. I ordered a ribeye steak, vodka sauce on penne, two beers and a ceasar side salad. The ceasar was a little overdressed, but as good as a basic ceasar usually is. The ribeye was overcooked and honestly, gross. It tasted like fish, which was really weird. It was heavily Buttered? Salted? Partially turned for the worst? I couldn't tell. I ate four bites trying to like it because I was hungry, but I couldn't push past the flavor and leather texture. I ate the pasta and it wasn't bad. Nothing to give me reason to celebrate, but I could at least eat it. I explained to the very kind waitress that I didnt need the steak boxed as it had an odd flavor. She said she would check on it and offered an alternative meal. I politely declined and waited. She returned to ask if I wanted the bill, and I ended up paying 18.99 for four gross bites of steak and some cafeteria pasta. Overall, this may be a "Niles, OH" thing, but a 4.4 it is not. Google has lied to me and now I leave Grossio's without satisfaction. Granted my appetite is mildly mitigated due to the turning in my stomach, but this was far from the tasty eatery I was hoping to praise in my Google review. Side note, I should have known my experience would be this when I parked in the overgrown parking lot shadowed by the "now hiring" sign. Further hints were provided by the enormous, empty dining room and restrooms that had more in common with a neglected campground wash house than a fine Italian eatery. I'm sure this place was good 20 years ago, but today, its probably dying from it's own outdated appearance and hospital...
Read moreMan, this restaurant never disappoints us. It doesn't matter if they're crazy busy, short staffed or shortly before closing; they deliver you incredibly delicious food, perfectly prepared and service that's second to none. We've had a number of items off the menu at this point and I can't say that one thing is better than the other or a favorite because it's always all so good! My husband says their Ribeye is wonderful and always perfectly Medium, the way he prefers. Our sons do love the BBQ Chicken Pizza but have enjoyed their Philly Steak sandwiches as well. I would say overall we all enjoy the Caprese Appetizer. If you lean towards chicken recipes, the Marsala and the Champagne Chicken options are amazing. I have YET to find any of their pasta sauces to be mediocre. They're very flavorful and satisfying with warm bread. I haven't personally been able to finish a meal here and always take...
