Sam’s Southern Eatery — Restaurant in Niles

The food is good, but the service from the woman behind the counter was terrible! My daughter wanted to get food from there tonight since Grandma was buying. I went online and pulled up the restaurant in Niles, and it took me to the Grubhub site. I ordered our food, then changed it from a delivery to pickup because the restaurant was only 2-3 miles away. On my way, I even received a confirmation text that my order was ready for pickup. I get there and the lady immediately tells me that I ordered from the South Avenue location, threat that they didn't get an order from me. I had to go back to my car to get my phone and show my emailed confirmation order. She refused to even look at my phone, just continued to say they never got my order. She even called the other restaurant and they told her that they didn't have an order placed with them. She called her boss and he finally told her to take a picture of my order confirmation and textc it to him. I told them that I ordered through Grubhub (which is displayed on the front door when you enter). I took a seat and called my daughter to let her and my grandsons know what was going on. Then, she magically had my order ready. No apology or anything. Then she made the stupid comment that 'ordering through Grubhub is not ordering online.' I was still on the phone with my daughter and trying to carry this large order (3 bags with two containers in each bag) when my cook came out to help me. He offered me a free soda for my wait and the confusion. Her purse was on the counter so I assume she was trying to hurry and get out of there, and that's why she was so rude and trying to get rid of...

This was my first visit to a Sam's Southern Eatery location. I was visiting from out of the area. I ordered a cup of Gumbo, Hush Puppies , and Fried Mushrooms. I did not order a drink because the fountain machine was apparently broken, they did have a limited selection of cans of soda to purchase though. The gumbo was probably about 12-16 oz so the portion size was large but it had very little flavor, no sausage, imitation crab and a couple pieces of chicken. I would not recommend the gumbo. The Fried Mushrooms were decent but the "ranch" they came with for dipping definitely was coleslaw sauce and the hot sauce tasted like straight vinegar. Then there were the hush puppies. The hush puppies give me hope for some of the other menu items. They were absolutely delicious. I could make a meal of those. Definitely order the hush puppies! Our service was okay. We were directed to sit and our order was taken by a friendly woman and food delivered but no table checks were made and we paid at the counter. It was a weird combination of diner and fast food style service. The parking lot and building have definitely seen better days. I didn't use the bathroom but there was one available.

This is that little location that is performing some COOKING!!!!!

I am a shrimp 🍤 freak and I can tell you that each time I am in town my wife and I will drive to this location even though we pass another Sam's. This is because the shrimp was SEASONED!!!!! And fried properly, the cold slaw was NOT over sweet, and it still had a VERY nice crunch to it, the string 🫘 beans had flavor and NOT salt to tell you it had flavor. Let's talk about that grilled 🐟 fish, again SEASONED and NOT salty to tell me you put seasoning on it.

The French fries 🍟 yup NICELY fried and slightly salted.

The crab 🦀 cakes were good, but I'm going to say that it was imitation crab because it normally does not fry up so well, and I say it holds too much oil.

OHHHH I met the owner or co- owner she was very nice and talkative she did not want to do a video as she says she gets camera shy. We asked for lemon tea water and she actually squeezed the lemon into the water to provide LEMON WATER not water with a lemon in it.
