My server was great. My food was great. Guess what WASN'T great or even ok. Let me begin by saying that I am highly allergic to peanuts. I have been going to Steak 'n Shake since I was very little and I am now 31. My family and I were having an amazing day, went shopping for the kids and on our way home, decided to stop for a good meal. We were seated right away and our server was very polite, funny and took our order quickly and never did we have to wait for a refill. My boyfriend and our eldest daughter ordered a milkshake to have during their meals. I was waiting until after so I could take mine to go. The server put in my order and I received my milkshake in a timely manner. I ordered an Orange Freeze and oh was is it a scrumptious dreamsicle flavor--for about 1/3-ish of the drink. All of a sudden, candy pieces came up through the straw and caught me off guard. I thought I tasted peanut butter! This milkshake in particular doesn't come with any candy pieces. We were already in the parking lot and my kids had began putting on their seatbelts when I decided to use my spoon and dig through the cup. I didn't find anything else at first and had my boyfriend take a drink. He didn't taste anything off either, but we decided to go ahead and dig through a bit more at the bottom. It was full of peanut butter cups and reese pieces. Panic and anger set in. Due to staffing issues, they had 1 person making the shakes. They were steady that evening and the drive through never slowed down. I go inside to speak to the manager and was approached by a younger blonde haired lady. I showed her my findings and told her of my allergy. She didn't apologize and proceeded to tell me they have a disclaimer notifying patrons that peanuts and peanut butter candies and pieces are used in the store. I then replied that I have been coming to these stores since I was 5 years old and never had a problem of this magnitude. She then proceeded to tell me that the young man making these shakes had made a few ahead of time to prepare to be mixed and maybe some candy pieces fell into mine during the process of him making someone else's. I told her that with the amount of pieces in my shake, he made someone else's shake and was in such a rush that he didn't bother to clean the mixer after each use. His negligence in this matter could kill someone and using a "disclaimer" is not an excuse to create shortcuts to decrease their times and this could cause someone to lose a life. IF candy pieces had fallen into my cup, he would have seen those at the top and at that time, should have remade my drink fresh. Yet, he blended these candy pieces into my drink. So it wasn't just that a 'few' pieces had come in contact, it was actually blended in throughout. That meant my entire drink had been contaminated and with every sip I took, I was putting peanuts into my body. She then said, well what do you want ma'am? I told her I wanted a refund. She gave me my refund and came back over only then saying she was sorry for my inconvenience. I left the store and we headed for home, about a 20 minute drive. During my trip home, my chest became tight and irritation in my throat began. It felt as though something was caught in my throat. The symptoms began to get worse. I have had this allergy since I was 6 years old and I know the signs of a reaction. I went to the emergency room where I was then treated for an allergic reaction and given a script for an EpiPen. I am a label reader and I am extremely of what I eat and drink, even researching a product prior to using it, which happened when I purchased a box of Roobios tea. I spent about an hour in the e.r. and the rest of the night, I spent recovering from a very traumatic experience in which my body had gone into overdrive trying to fight this off. I had side effects from the treatment today as well and we had plans to take our children to a festival/carnival which had to then be cancelled all because of this "wonderful" excursion to the E.R. and the negligence of a...
Read moreThis location should not be visited IMO. I simply wanted to order a combo meal through the drive through and move on. The person who was at the drive through is practically yelling back when an order/questions are being placed and/asked. I had to drive away to the window. Once at the window it seems the Joke is ok the customer as everyone seems to be laughing and looking my direction. I asked what was so funny and tried to just pay for my food. Upon getting my credit card back it appears that the entire store wants to veer at me. I then have to ask what’s so funny and could I speak to a manager. I was told there wasn’t one and her name was “Nicole.” I also tried to explain to the employee that it’s very loud at the speaker and seems that no one wants to listen to a customer who is simply asking for explanations on the amounts of a substitute. They could not be bothered and seemed annoyed. The order taker informs me she’s sick and has to be here. I find that extremely disturbing as you’re serving food to customers!!! Can’t be serious.
I get my food without condiments. Typical these days.
I call the number on the receipt to make a complaint and inform them of the issue at the speaker.
The manager gets on the phone- it’s the lady who told me she was sick. Imagine my surprise when I try and ask her questions. She proceeds to tell me how she has to pay bills and doesn’t have health insurance and how I’m not empathetic to her situation. For starters, that’s not my problem as a customer ordered at the drive through. However, now I have serious concerns with eating the food ordered as she clearly stated she was sick and had to be at work. Because who else is going to pay for her car, food, bills etc. I told her that I don’t need all that and to not try and make a customer have a guilt trip for simply ordering a meal. Take that up with Steak N Shake.
The audacity to blame a customer for ordering food and wanting a simple explanation on the price of his meal when there was a substitution for a drink to a milk. I can certainly tell you I will make this a conscious decision between the next options I have on ordering from a fast food chain.
Also, of note- she told me she has no regional manager and that is her...
Read moreIt was a terrible experience. Our server was terrible. I used to be a server so I know things happen and when you're busy it gets crazy. That being said they were not busy at all. I had just had my wisdom teeth out two days prior to this and She got me the wrong shake which I asked for a side by side strawberry banana shake, I got just strawberry. I let it go like at least I got strawberry. Then we had to ask her to take our order. She I guess assumed we only wanted shakes. Then we get everything ordered our waters are empty she never once asked if we wanted a refill. Then after waiting about 30 min or more she tells us it'll be another 15-20 min on our food. Again they are not busy. We had two other table come in after we ordered and waited on by different servers that had ate and was leaving when we finally got our food. I ordered the chili Mac bc it's soft and easy to eat. When our food come out everyone got the food they ordered except me. Me being nice thought oh .maybe she needs to go back to get it, NO she finally comes back to the table 15 MINUTES later asking how everything is and I ask her about my food she says oh I thought I was forgetting something. Goes up and brings me old food that's sit under a heater. So by this I'm furious. So finally I got up and talk to the manager. I didn't yell or get crappy with him but I told him everything and he took my shake and meal off because I didn't even eat it. So beware they can be really good or have...
