We were there for the first time because we had heard their pizza was awesome! We got there and loved the atmosphere, very family friendly and their menu was simple to choose from. We ordered 3 pizzas, cheese, meat lovers and pepperoni which were amazing and came out pretty quick!! This will definitely be our new favorite pizza place! Unfortunately, I have to give them a 3 because of the service. After our pizzas were delivered the waitress left us there sitting for a very long time. She walked past our table like 6 times and didn't even ask if everything was OK, if she could remove plates or if we wanted to order anything else. She had a trainee helping her which was the one checking on us constantly. When she decided to come to our table she came with the ticket, which we hadn't requested because we wanted desserts. It took them another 20 minutes to bring the desserts and another 20 to bring us the check. When we got the check, it had the gratuity included because we were a group of more than 6.(We were 7. 4 Adults and 3 children) So I asked the trainee if it had to be included, because I wanted to give more of the tip to her and a smaller portion to the other waitress that we hardly saw. She had no idea so called the waitress Annie, who decided to argue and say that she left her trainee alone because she was learning and that she still mostly everything, that the gratuity had to be included and walked of with her rude attitude. The next 2 times she came by to get my card and give me the receipt to sign which was a bill of 160 something dollars she had a sarcastic tone and never offered apologies or for us to speak with management. Her trainee later did.
So sorry it was so long, but as a former waitress and after loving the place so much on our first visit, we were really disappointed of the treatment we received from Annie. If it wasn't for that I would...
Read moreA Norfolk institution for a reason, Azalea Inn & Time Out Sports Bar delivers a reliably satisfying experience that feels like coming home. It’s the kind of comfortable, no-frills spot that manages to be a great family restaurant and a lively sports bar all at once. The extensive menu is a major plus, offering everything from hearty Greek specialties to what is, without a doubt, one of the best pizzas in the city. On our last visit, we went for the classic "Azalea Special" pizza, and it was loaded with toppings, boasting a perfectly cooked crust and generous layers of cheese. It’s clear they haven't cut corners over the years. The atmosphere in the dining room side is relaxed and family-friendly—you can see why it's been a local favorite for generations. On the other side, the Time Out Sports Bar is buzzing whenever there's a game on, with plenty of screens and a great energy. The reason it doesn't quite hit that perfect five-star mark is some minor inconsistency, particularly with service speed on very busy nights. While the staff is always friendly, things can slow down when the place is packed, leading to a longer-than-expected wait for your food. It’s a small wrinkle in an otherwise fantastic neighborhood gem. Nonetheless, for its comforting food, welcoming vibe, and the sheer reliability of a good meal, Azalea Inn is a cornerstone of Norfolk's dining scene that rarely disappoints. It’s a must-try for anyone looking for authentic...
Read moreWe used to take the children here when they were little - they are now age 19 y.o. & 22 y.o. It has been a long time since we have been here. We decided to order take out. We have never ordered take out from Azalea Inn prior to this order. The food was absolutley terrible.
We ordered two "Philly Steak" sandwiches and a Pizza. The sandwiches were greatly lacking in every way. Very little ingredients and very dry - $12.95. The sandwiches at best were $6.95 sandwiches. The pizza cheese was like chewing on bubbe gum. You literally had to spit it out. Whoever cooked this food does NOT know how to cook.
The food was so bad I had to call the restaurant. I think the young lady who answered was maybe a highschool girl - I asked to speak to a manager or someone in the kitchen. She went back to the kitchen and I could hear the person in the background say that they did not want to talk to me - the girl hung up the phone. Terrible food and terrible communication.
When we went years ago the owner was always there. I think he must be much older now and may not be there much, if at all? This place has really gone downhill. The food was so inedible that there is no way we will even consider going back. I think this place has mostly become a place to hang out at the bar, drink beer and watch the TV? If you are into that this is a good spot for you. Don't order the food unless you have had a...
