Exquisite food in an upscale venue. The Glass Light Restaurant resides on the ground floor of the Glass Light Hotel & Gallery, a newly-opened Marriott property right on Granby Street in the heart of the downtown district. Michelin-star executive chef Serge Gouloumes has come up with a brilliant menu to fit the upscale, boutique feel of the property. To be short, the food is awesome. Fresh, locally-sourced, and to the maximum extent possible - organic ingredients are expertly prepared into visually appealing, delicious dishes. Portions are well-sized - you will not leave feeling hungry or feeling overly full. This is quality over quantity - you will not be served the massive portions that seem to dominate the U.S. food scene. The staff are prompt, friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. Although on the ground floor of the hotel, I did not feel that the proximity to the "lobby" negatively affected my dining experience. The ambiance was warm and intimate, with adequate lighting and comfortable seating. The dress code is advertised as casual. However, business casual is probably more appropriate given the setting (this is especially true on a prime time dinner slot time like Friday/Saturday evening). There were people wearing jeans on a Friday night, but it was not the majority of patrons. Being the hotel restaurant, it is open all day. You can probably walk-in at most times, but I would recommend reservations for Friday and Saturday evenings, and holidays or other special events. At the time of this writing, there were very few reviews on Google (or information in general). I have posted a photograph of the menu, but be cautioned that most restaurants of this caliber will revise their menu regularly according to what is in-season and fresh. My goal is to give you a general idea of the general theme of the menu and price-points. Overall, this was a great experience, and I highly recommend it if you're looking for a great...
Read moreMy first visit to Glass Light Restaurant on corner of City Ave and Granby Street in Norfolk. Park in Boush Street garage. Be advised: Very popular parking spot. Shared a wonderful evening meal with my lovely wife. Very beautiful, inviting restaurant. We were greeted very warmly. Our reservation was confirmed and we were immediately seated. We reserved seating at the Chef's counter. It is a bar type seating that faces the kitchen. We were there for the Chef's Tasting. Our meal consisted of items from a menu created by the Chef Zack. During our meal, we had the pleasure of speaking with Chef Zack about each serving. We watched an amazing kitchen staff produce scores of delicious entries delivered by courteous servers. As entries were finished, plates were quickly removed and another set of utensils were readied for the next taste. Water glasses were quickly filled. Exceptional restaurant staff. Jami was our primary guide for the evening. She helped us with menu questions and made sound wine recommendations. She frequently checked with us to solicit our feedback and to make sure our evening was enjoyable. Jami was simply amazing. First time that I had eaten octopus. Loved every bite. Chef Zack creates sauces that compliment food, so take your time chewing. The seared tuna was cooked perfectly. Enjoyed every item served. There is also an art gallery connected to the resturant. Closes at 8p. Eat early if you want to visit. Worth the look. We will...
Read moreI’m a little late on the review but better late than never.
I want to give a heartfelt thanks to the Glasslight team for making my honeymoon week (late October 2024) special. My family and I enjoyed a wonderful meal and easily the best cocktails in the area. The bartending team were all wonderful and I had the opportunity to introduce myself and speak with Hunter for a bit. The drinks are classic, and the menu was innovative. I LOVED the Milk Punch & The Fox Wedding. I’m a sucker for Chartreuse so seeing it on a menu was really exciting. This was our fourth visit to Glasslight and it was by far the most consistent restaurant experience in Norfolk.
The food was on another level. I can’t even begin to explain how blown away my family and I were. The Wild Mushroom Risotto & Squid dish were everyone’s favorite, and my in-laws even ordered a burger to go and said they loved it!
I loved the dining experience as well. The server cleared each course professionally and without us even noticing. I never once asked for anything. One of my favorite touches were the fresh napkin presented at my seat, perfectly folded every time I walked away from the table. It was inspiring and is now something I do at my restaurant during service, such a great touch!
Highly highly highly recommend this restaurant, and I’m looking forward to my next visit as we intend on staying at the Hotel as well hopefully within the next month or...
