A Flavor-Packed Fiesta in a Funky, Cozy Corner Jeasy's Taco Bistro is a vibrant and creative gem that brings a much-needed dose of personality and bold flavors to the Norfolk taco scene. Tucked away in its cozy spot, it delivers an experience that is inventive and overwhelmingly delicious, earning a solid four stars for its culinary flair, even if the intimate space presents minor challenges. The absolute highlight of Jeasy's is the menu. This isn't your standard taco joint. The chefs are clearly passionate about pushing boundaries, offering a fantastic array of unique and expertly crafted tacos. The Bang Bang Shrimp taco is a must-try, bursting with sweet and spicy flavor, and their Birria tacos are rich, savory, and served with a perfectly seasoned consommĂ©. It's the daily and weekly specials, however, that truly showcase their creativityâdon't be surprised to find incredible one-offs like Birria ramen or other imaginative fusions. The ingredients taste fresh, the combinations are exciting, and every plate comes out looking like a work of art. The atmosphere is just as funky and eclectic as the food. The small space is decorated with a cool, quirky vibe that feels both personal and hip. The service generally matches this upbeat energy, with staff who are friendly, knowledgeable about the menu, and happy to offer recommendations. It feels less like a standard restaurant and more like you've stumbled upon a cool, local secret. The only reason Jeasy's doesn't hit that perfect five-star mark are the slight logistical limitations. The bistro is quite small, so it can get crowded quickly, sometimes leading to a wait for a table, and the seating is close. Additionally, while the quality absolutely justifies the cost, the prices can feel a touch high for the portion size, which might leave bigger appetites wanting more. Still, these are minor quibbles for a place that gets the most important thingsâflavor, creativity, and atmosphereâso right. Jeasy's Taco Bistro is a fantastic spot for a date night or a flavorful meal with a friend when you're craving something beyond the ordinary. It's a culinary adventure that's well worth taking. Authentic Flavors Shine Through Minor Inconsistencies Jeasy's Taco Bistro is a vibrant splash of authentic Mexican cuisine in the heart of Norfolk's Ghent district, serving up creative, deeply flavorful dishes that often feel like a culinary trip south of the border. While the food is undoubtedly the star, minor inconsistencies in service and execution keep it just shy of perfection, making it a solid and highly recommended four-star destination. From the moment you walk in, the intimate, "quaint little place" vibe promises an authentic experience. The menu is where Jeasy's truly excels, moving far beyond standard taqueria fare. The guacamole trio is a fantastic starting point, offering a delightful exploration of flavors. The tacos themselves are a highlight, with inventive fillings that showcase fresh ingredients and bold seasoning. The Birria, rich and savory with its accompanying consommĂ©, is an absolute must-try and a true standout in the local food scene. Dishes like the "Camarones a la Diabla" pack a fantastic punch, and the freshness of the house-made tortillas elevates every bite. The ambition of the menu is impressive, and for the most part, it delivers. However, this is where the experience can be a bit of a gamble. On a good night, the food is spectacular, but on an off night, dishes can sometimes lack the same vibrant seasoning or care in assembly noted by other diners. The service, while generally friendly, can also vary, occasionally feeling a bit stretched during busy periods, which is understandable given the restaurant's popularity and cozy size. Despite these small critiques, Jeasy's Taco Bistro is a fantastic choice for anyone craving genuine Mexican flavors. The passion behind the food is evident, and when it hits, it hits hard. For its fantastic Birria, creative tacos, and lively atmosphere, it remains one of Ghent's most exciting...
Read moreHad the worst restaurant experience of my life here. Go to Jessyâs on Shore Drive - do not waste your time at this location. My friends and I arrived to have dinner on their back patio. As soon as we entered the patio, a large and rowdy group looked at us and said âOh this isnât a place for Christians, so you ladies better leave!â Which was so insane because none of us were wearing any Christian paraphernalia, no crosses, no print shirts that said âGodâ, we werenât even wearing modest clothing đ - literally there was no reason why they would have thought we were Christians. It only got worse from that point on. This group screamed and cursed as the night went on. They were so loud that at some points we couldnât hear ourselves talking to each other. We were trying to ignore them and enjoy our meals, but they kept yelling things at us, so eventually my friend turned around and told them to be quiet. That just made everything worse. Then they started screaming at us and threatening us. I went to the manager, which despite how I look, is literally something I never do. The manager seemed unconcerned by my complaint but said âIâll look into it.â The manager came outside right behind me and STARTED GIVING EVERYONE IN THE GROUP A HUG. I cannot make this stuff up. I was shocked and disappointed and angry. We literally did nothing to these people. They were a huge group of young people in scrubs screaming at everyone on the patio, and for some reason decided they specifically hated me and my friends, and instead of the manager asking them to leave, she came out and gave them all hugs. I asked one of the quieter ones where they all worked and she looked embarrassed and refused to tell me the name of their workplace. Instead she said âItâs my last day and this is why.â I have never forgotten how horrible this experience was, and how disappointed I am in the management at this Jessyâs. If the manager had come to support us and diffuse the situation, maybe I would have tried again. Instead, I have told all my family and friends about this experience. I will never, EVER come back to...
Read moreEven though this used to be one of my favorite place to eat when I lived in the neighborhood 2 years ago, I had reviewed them and had only given them 4 stars on yelp. This time I can only given them 3 due to the lack of customer service and cleanliness. First, it took about 5 mins for anyone yo acknowledge me at the door. They have this dessert display fridge that blocks half the entrance and itâs very unwelcoming. I wet around it to ensure I was at the host table. About 4 of the tables inside where occupiedâŠand I saw the waiters walking around to serve the tables, yet no one took the curtesy to sit me down until 5 minutes had lapsed.
The bench and the table I was directed to were dirty, so I had to move to the one next to it. I ordered my coffee and it took about 25-30 mins for the coffee to arrive. I went to the bathroom to wash my hands and the trash can was overflowing with paper towels. Overall, I was not happy with the cleanliness.
Now letâs talk the foodâŠthe coffee with milk. This was one of my favorite things to order here because it had a hint of cinnamon and it was served in a huge mug with warm milk. This time the mug was smaller, the milk was cold - which I donât like because it makes my coffee cold, it tasted burnt like it had been in the pot for a while, and no cinnamon taste :-( I ordered 1 birria taco, 1 lamb barbacoa taco, with rice & beans as a side. They changed their beans from black to pinto and they are much better. The rice is still good, and the tacos were good too. The barbacoa was a little bland, but I didnât even attempt to ask for salt since it was probably going to take foreverâŠand the lime wedge that came with the tacos had NO juice. The birria was ok, although Iâve had better. The taste of the food was good, but the customer service had a lot to wish for. I will definitely try to come at a time when Iâm the only one in here so my service...
