Edit 11/08/24: As much as I enjoyed my first visit to this coffee shop, especially bringing my grandma here, I’ve faced challenges trying to return. After my initial visit, I tried to come back twice. The first time, they were closed due to a family emergency (completely understandable), so I made a point to check their Facebook page before heading over in the future. However, on my third attempt this past Saturday (11/02), despite no updates on their page, the shop was closed again, this time with a makeshift sign indicating ‘Halloween hours.’ As someone who drives from Williamsburg, it’s a bit frustrating to make the trip only to find the shop unexpectedly closed each time. While I wish them all the best with their business, consistency in operating hours would make it easier for customers like me who want to support them. ——————————————————————— From the moment my grandmother and I stepped into The High Cup, we were enveloped in warmth and charm, thanks not only to the delectable coffee but also to the unmatched hospitality of Joe. His friendly demeanor turned a simple coffee run into a memorable experience. The café itself is a visual delight, with stunning artwork and a beautifully designed space that invites you to relax and savor the moment. The food and pastries complement the aesthetic allure, with each bite as delightful as the surroundings. I must highlight the almond Danish—it was nothing short of phenomenal! What really sets The High Cup apart, though, is the genuine care and respect shown to every guest. Joe's personal touch in sharing the story of the café's vision adds another layer to the visit, making you feel right at home. Thank you, Joe, for not just serving coffee, but creating a sanctuary of joy and kindness. High Cup is now my must-visit spot in Norfolk, and I can't wait to return. We’ll see you next month!

Okay if you wonder if this 4 month old cafe is a must visit - it is. Parking is hard to find, just to note that you can park either at the gas station/repair shop next door, or find parking along the nearby streets/blocks. We are told the parking situation is being looked at. Then came first impression of the decor and ambiance… so cute and organized and modern. But the real thing to note is that the father-son duo running the coffee shop is super sweet, friendly and more importantly seem to truly want their business to be the next best coffee shop to visit, is more than enough to believe this is the place to come and patronize. My friend and I ordered a bowl of mixed chicken and steak with cucumber, kimchi, sticky rice, small slice of corn on cob, kale - it was fresh, well seasoned… and yes, I didn’t take a picture of the menu so I can’t officially what this dish is called… how about “ a bowl of delicious protein and fresh veggies!!??”. And want a really good coffee concoction? What I’d also recommend is the special combo of “salty caramel “ and “white chocolate toffee” drink - it is very good! Definitely highly recommended place to go!

This review comes after my 2nd visit to the shop. I will start by saying parking on the closed Shell has station next door is okay, but be aware it is a homeless haven. They don't bother you but it can be jarring for a first time visit. The interior is on the first floor. There is a clean cover inside that's lofty and artsy with a cozy vibe to read a book, draw, study, or meet up with a friend and grab coffee. They have a good menu option of Korean bowls I have tried several that your can't go wrong with trying. I ordered a strawberry slush that was good and last time had the Mango that amazing. There are a lot of local artists displayed on the wall to purchase or grab a board game and play. The wait for good is short round 10 min or less, but the flavors are filling and enjoyable. The server will check in every so often and make sure you are well taken care of. Grab a high cup sometime and you'll feel right at home!

So thankful for this new edition to Norfolk! After hearing a lot about it I finally had some time to wander in and I was so impressed. Previous reviews mentioned iffy parking but the parking lot adjacent to the building was very accessible and clean, and the owner let me know that there are also a few spots across the street at the cleaners that are available for High Cup customers. First thing worth noting is the atmosphere of the shop. The walls are decorated with beautiful art by featured local artists and whoever chooses the music needs a solid shoutout. Velvet chairs and a leather couch offer a comfortable warmth to the room which I could easily see me spending hours in while doing work or hanging with friends. The highlight, however, was definitely their menu; both drinks and food. I ordered the kimchi crunch bowl and I was so pleased with my choice. The bowl was a great portion size and the flavors were so well curated that I can’t wait to return to try more of their food items. Their crafted white chocolate-toffee latte was the perfect ratio of espresso-milk-sweetness and the flavors really stood out. 10/10 will most definitely be...
