I am new here from New York and this was an excellent first theater experience in Norfolk.
The Attucks is steeped in history (which I love). It is sparkling clean and the staff are extremely kind and helpful.
Parking is minimal behind the theater but free, so get to your show early. Additional parking is available close by with a donation in any denomination.
I saw Leslie Jones here. She was part of the line up for the theater's 100 year anniversary (Attucks 100). The sound and lighting was superb. The seating is intimate so you get an excellent view of the stage no matter where you sit. Caution though, the seats felt a bit small so do not carry large pocket books. There is just enough space for you to sit in your chair. Nothing extra!
There is also a bar available so you can sip while you enjoy the show.

A late start and a 30 minute Act one then a fifteen minute intermission that lasted more like twenty three minutes then an act two that was about 35 minutes was more a blessing than a disappointment. The dancing, lighting and creative design were interesting however they were mostly on a par with an elementary or middle school performance. The ticket charges were way too much for a "school play" like venue. In the middle of the second act there was a woman in the audience that yelled out "That's my baby girl, up there" . . . "that's my baby"! In my opinion I'm sorry to say, it was an unexpectedly...

It is a cozy and intimate setting, however the seating is large folding table and stacking chairs. Maybe I'm in the minority but when I pay the price ($40) for a great jazz show I hope for a great experience all around. My other criticism is the bar. I like to have a few drinks while relaxing and listening to the amazing talent. I had one drink and did not get another because my double gin and tonic came in a small plastic cup akin to kind you would have near your sink. I also had the displeasure of paying $32 + tip...
