Y'all, I am not really into macarons. Or at least, I didn't think I was. I've even been to Hummingbird when they were on Botetourt and had a macaron that didn't impress me. I had other desserts that day that took me on a journey to yummy town though so when this showed up as a Yelp Elite event I said yes please. I'm a sleep in kinda girl on the weekends but I set my alarm to try and be there before all the goodies were gone. Luckily, we made it early enough to get the special treat (ice cream sandwich) a macaron and a brownie. I hadn't planned on staying but the ice cream sandwich needed to be eaten immediately, and who was I to disagree, so we grabbed a table and ate what was clearly the greatest summer dessert ever. That cookie dough ice cream with caramel, chocolate cake, chocolate covered coffee beans, covered in chocolate was delectable. I wore it down my face and didn't even care!! Hubby and I took turns eating it and though it was smallish, it was quite filling. So much so that I didn't even try the rest of our delights til later that evening.

The brownie was very rich, very fudgey and creamy. It's the best brownie I've ever gotten from a dessert cafe. Definitely worth having again. Ps, I won't lie. This big girl didn't share one bite of it with hubby. Or the macaron.

The citrus macaron was so good it changed my opinion of them and I can't wait to be back in Norfolk to grab some other flavors and other desserts.

The blueberry pistachio cake was almost too pretty to eat. The blueberries were dusted sparkly and sweet and with what I would describe as a decorative wave of white chocolate and pistachio. The man consumed his cake and didn't even get to taste that one but it certainly looked moist and delicious.

Folks who live in Norfolk continue to be the luckiest of diners as they have Hummingbird with a bigger cafe which means room for more goodies!

Thank you for inviting us to your new spot and for giving us a preview of the new signature dessert, my newest favorite treat-citrus macaron and the brownie. Your crew was very friendly and helpful and quick to move everyone through.

I lost sleep and it was...

I called Over a week in advance to inquire about macarons and specialty orders and when I needed to place them. I was told that I could place an order for the flavors that I wanted that it would be an additional charge, which I had no problem with. The woman I spoke with, Kira, said I didn’t have to place that day just 72 hours in advance. She took my name email and phone number saying that when I call back they’ll know what I’m referring to. I called back today to place the order ,72 hours in advance, and spoke to another woman who says they’re almost booked up for the weekend. She then says let me place you with their sales associate Kira. I’m on a brief hold the woman comes back and tells me that was for next weekend, which it never was. I’m flying in from NYC to attend a family event which was why I was placing the order as a surprise for someone. The woman says in the time I called till now the books for the weekend have closed but I can put in for another day I told her that I was told it was 72 hours in advance that I’m coming from out of state and don’t live there. She then tells me they ship. This whole time she’s spoken to me in a rush. She then starts speaking over me and curtly when I tell her they’re for that weekend when I’m down there and that I don’t need them shipped. Her response was well you didn’t say they were for a party and have a nice day. Before I started to become more irritated I just told her to have a nice day and hung up the phone. Now I have to search for another bakery and hope they’ll have what I need!! As someone who comes from a customer service background I know this is not how you behave. If you’re busy and don’t have the time to speak with a customer you ask for there information and get...

Hello, I’m writing this because I’ve had several issues with customer service the past couple of times my family and I have come to order or tried to call in an order. My mother loves your coconut eclairs, she called in about 2 weeks ago to put in an order and pick up and the young woman on the phone told her they were discontinued and that she couldn’t do that. I then called back and asked her which eclairs you guys had in stock and she said coconut and never said anything about it then being discontinued and also told me I could pay to set it aside since there was one left. Today, my brother called in to see what treats you had in stock, and if he could possible pay over the phone to set something aside for him to pickup since he works for most of your business hours. The young woman on the phone told him he would not be able to do that and that he needed to “catch them on a good day” to get what he wanted. We’ve never had any issues like that before. We love your treats and are happy to buy dozens of macarons and other goodies weekly. It’s okay if your rules have changed but were not getting any straight answers and we are starting to feel like we are being singled out personally. There has not been any consistency...we would like to know what the proper procedures are...

A wonderful dessert boutique indeed! Not only is the ambiance so inviting with elegant decor, brightly lit space and tasteful touches, it is the ultra welcoming and warm reception you get when you talk to the owner Kisha and her beautiful daughter Jazmin. I spent the entire time, all about 1.5 hours just sharing anecdotes that span multitudes of topics from travel to macarons to kids/family to afternoon tea to miracles to strong and supportive friends and restaurants! We all say we cross paths with people for a reason - for me, I found countless reasons! We exchanged ideas for travel, small businesses, etc. as it’s quite evident Kisha is a warm soul with creative and forward thinking professional acumen. Such a breath of fresh air to have Hummingbird in Norfolk to enjoy! I purchased 12 macarons, all were divine. And the caramel macchiato was good.

The place is cute a bit snobbish and extremely overpriced. What has potential is $2.00 a macaron which wouldn't be so bad if they were consistent. What wasn't okay $8.00 for a runny lemon tart and $9.00 for a a very pretty strawberry almond cake that looked way better than it tasted with a crumbly not very moist texture and icing that was stiff the whole thing just seemed old. The macarons which were okay the birthday one was perfect texture and filling. The hummingbird had a good filling that was chewy otherwise the shells were crispy same with the oreo however the inside wasn't so great. I expected so much more from this place, such a let down.
