El Toro Mexican Grill — Restaurant in Norman

at first glance, this new restaurant is super cute inside. and i will say, the food (that we ended up recieving) was very good, and so were the drinks. however, we never received one of our meals, and one of them came out wrong, and once we let the staff know, it didn’t come back out for around half an hour. the servers were very sweet but clearly did not know what was going on or didn’t receive correct training, or the kitchen was completely unorganized, or something. i’ve worked at multiple restaurants and try my best to extend grace, but our experience was not going well. we then asked for the manager, who was quite rude and dismissive. we were very kind and explained what happened and said we just were concerned that as they got busier there would be a bunch of bad reviews. (we were one of 2 tables in the restaurant) she told us that they were “good” and then took off 1 of the meals and the drinks and we paid for our other 4 meals, one of which we didn’t receive until they gave it to us in a to go box when we left. it was soggy when we opened it in the car. she seemed to think we just wanted free food, commenting “so you just want all your food free?” when we said we felt like it wasn’t right for us to pay for everything. the servers was very sweet the whole time and we left her a normal tip as it was very clear the manager was the main problem here. if the manager was nicer and more understanding, i would not be writing this review right now. hopefully new management can get the place going because it’s super cute inside and the food was wonderful and...

Even though I gave it a 4 star overall rating this place is great. Went today 7/13/25 and had the quesabarria with lamb and beef. Shared between myself and my wife. The food is absolutely amazing. They are a little short staffed but are trying their hardest. We will be going back tomorrow for my father in laws birthday. So many things on the menu I want to try. Their Fresca drinks are on point and amazing. I only wish I could have tried everything at one setting but I only have so much room in my tummy. Cannot wait to try the Molcajeta and their Ceviche! I highly recommend this place. Please be a little patient with the staff as they are building a good crew. I was very disappointed with an older couple that left after they waited about 7 minutes and was notified that that someone would be with them in a couple minutes. Had been wanting to try this place even before the name change. Was pleasantly surprised when I walked in how nicely decorated the interior was. It had a Mexican theme yet relaxing and clean. I was greeted and seated right away. Ordered the flautas with a side of rice and tea. Complimentary chips and salsa were delivered to my table. The chips were good and the salsa you could taste was homemade and very tasty. My order arrived in short time and the portions were huge. It was topped with fresh lettuce, tomatoes, white cheese, and sour cream. One taste and I knew this place knows how to make great food. The rice was delicious also. My waitress was helpful, friendly, and attentive. Other staff members also came to check on me. I also noticed the background Spanish music was spot on and fit the whole theme of the restaurant.
