The Bagel Factory — Restaurant in Norman

The bagels are decent. But the main thing going for them is the lack of competition. If there were another good bagel shop, this shop would be easily classifiable as mediocre.

And here's why:

The staff is almost entirely high school and college students who seem to be afflicted with the idea that they are entitled to a tip for doing minimal work (for instance, they are really chipper when they get their fifty cents, but noticeably put out when they get no tip). Additionally, they are extremely slow workers considered they have two lines to prepare bagels at behind the counter and always have one to two extra persons working at a given time.

Lastly, the young men who work there are exceptionally dopey. Specifically, there is a male employee, usually wearing a lambda chi shirt, who cannot understand the difference between "yes" and "no." Twice he has asked me if I want my bagel sliced, and "twice" I clearly said, "no." Both the times the young dummy went right to the back and sliced the bagel. I know this is really minor, but regardless of how low-skill a job may be, its extremely discouraging when the young adult behind the counter is either too stupid or too inattentive to follow a basic request, especially when he was the one inviting the instruction.

This place is absolutely pitiful. The manager treats his employees like they're some sort of wild animal that he is trying to hunt, for heavens sake they are young adults most of them in college! I can't stand watching them be treated so poorly, I sometimes can hear him yelling at them in the back (also using curse words). It's a shame when they are just trying to make some money to get through school. No wonder the staff turnover rate is so high. Another note, the food is often messed up. I've had my order messed up about the last 4 times I've been. There are always dirty tables, they never have enough bagels in stock for the day, and their coffee tastes like a seven year old made it. Last time I went, I saw the manager pouring whole milk into the half and half container as if he thought none of us would notice!! Very poor quality overall and that was my last time visiting this location.

Comparing this location to the Edmond location on Covell, on a scale of 1-10 I'd say it is around a -7. The Edmond location the people are always happy, I'm assuming because their manager treats them like humans. The food quality there is higher, the service is better, and I've never had an order messed up there! If you have the chance, go to an Edmond/OKC location,...

I have been a patron on this place since they opened and will no longer be going back. Every time I go to pick up lunch or anything they always seem to be closed or about to close and say that they can not make a sandwich because they are closing. I’m not sure how they expect for their customers to come in to their business during business hours if they continue to change their hours of operation. It is not worth my time to drive over to this place of business if they are going to be closed every time I try to purchase something from them. Not everyone gets to each lunch during the “normal” lunch hour. Needless to say it appears that they are poorly managed and have very little concern for their customers and the time spent by their customers to try to support their business. If you go to this assablishment I hope the you have a better experience than I have had. I do not recommend you waste your time going to this place because more than likely when you show up they will not be there or will not be interested in helping...
