2021- fence is fixed, rating is increased! But I learned the hard way that my 3 y/o can fit through the bars, so keep an eye on your kiddos!
Neat little park in a lovely neighborhood, but some construction/repair issues as of September 2019 mean I can't give it 4 stars.
The fence around the little kid's playground is missing a huge section as of September 2019, and it's right next to a drainage ditch. I guess for us that didn't really make much difference as the vertical bars on the fence are far enough apart that our 2 y/o son was able to squeeze through a few months back. There is a park bench/table inside the little kid playground which is SUPER helpful, and honestly even with the piece of fence missing we still had a great time, I just had to stay on my toes--definitely could not bring both kids here at the same time in it's current condition. Ground is fake grass--so much better than rocks or sand!
The larger kid playground is surrounded by wood chips and the playground itself seemed pretty engaging, it was totally unfenced. There are soccer nets, a baseball diamond, and a couple tennis courts.
There is a pavilion and a gazebo as well but it looked like they were occupied by some folks who had just woken up-- but to be fair, we had no issues with anyone. In fact, interacted with some really great parent-kid combos while playing.
I will very much consider this as an option for outdoor play, but only with a 1:1 parent:kid ratio given its current condition. Fix the fence and I'll happily...
Read moreTiny park with everything you could need. Summer concerts, movie nights, circular walking path, soccer nets, tennis, gazebo, big kid park and tot park (tot park currently appears to be undergoing maintenance and is closed as of 10/16/23 :(...) parking on both east (firehouse) and west sides for easy access. Walking distance to McKinley Elementary school and OU campus so school events sometimes are here, firehouse art center summer camps use it for lunch/break time too. Of course the occasional Lions Club meetings are held here as well. If you play pokemon go, there's lots of pokestops on the circular walking path and a rare spawn point at the firehouse. As with most norman parks, I wouldn't step foot in the bathroom... but maybe it's not so bad? I wouldn't know!! Too...
Read moreIt's my meditation spot. It's one of those places that you don't want to share with the world.... But feel a little selfish if you don't. When I need to get away from the house I walk here and chill out. My favorite part is the fact that it's not in front of a busy street (i.e. Boyd). I also like the fact that they have a rec center type thing for art. There are a couple duck statues that seem out of place, but I dig it. If you aren't a fan of kids then I suggest you stay away. They have a jungle gym and an open field where I've seen soccer...
