Saltgrass Steak House — Restaurant in Norman

I usually never leave reviews but this was exceptionally bad. We arrived at the restaurant and were seated at a table that was broken, which wasn’t a big deal at first. Then we get reseated and it takes 15minutes to get drinks. There were maybe 6 other tables in the restaurant and there were at least that many servers hanging out near the kitchen. We get our drinks and order our appetizer, it comes 20min later, all of our drinks are empty but we are not offered a refill. She finally comes back to take our orders and then we are left alone again for another 35min or so with not so much as a “do you need anything”, a refill, didn’t take the plates or cups that were empty. We finally get our food and it’s WRONG and delivered by someone else. I got ribs and they were dry so I asked for BBQ sauce to put on them and I didn’t receive it the entire time I was there, my shrimp breading was cold and soggy, the steak we got was over cooked, the food was BAD. So then we all wait there to talk to our waitress who makes eye contact with me 4 or so times in a 20min span and NEVER came to our table. Never asked how the food was. No refills still. She finally brings the ticket and when I tell her what happened she said “yeah I know the service wasn’t good tonight we are trying to close” well you wouldn’t have been trying to close had we been served when we got there at 8pm. But we didn’t leave until almost 10 because of being ignored by staff the entire time. Her way of making it better was to offer me a free dessert for the table of 4 people. Arrived a little after 3pm. Only a few people here at this time. Was seated in just a few minutes. Was able to order our drinks and appetizer at once. We ordered the Jalapeno Rattler appetizer. My sons had the 12oz Ribeye and I had the Laredo Chicken. One steak med rare son very happy with it except for the glob of butter in the middle of the steak. Gross! The glob of purple stuff thrown on top was cold and tasted odd. Mac and cheese was perfect. My salad had wilted lettuce with a few chunks that were browning. As for the Jalapeno Rattlers they were unique and good; however, I pointed out the $11 size and the waitress said that's 6 but my ticket showed a charge for $15.99. When I asked the waitress about it she shrugged and said yeah the 4 piece is $11. I feel like that's duping the customer. I wasn't pleased. Also when I asked why the Texas Longhorn head was mounted upside down the waitress said she didn't know but would find out and never came back. I feel like it's part of that childish OU VS TX rivalry that blows into disrespect. That says more about Saltgrass' pettiness than TX supposedly being inferior. Everything from the service to the food to the atmosphere makes you feel comfortable and safe. Saltgrass Steakhouse is one of the best steakhouses I've ever eaten. I've traveled all across the country trying different steakhouses (steak being one of my favorite foods) and I'd be hard pressed to to find one better. I've also had the rare opportunity to see what goes on in both sides of the menu, as my wife is one of their talented and friendly servers. Their staff is HIGHLY trained and ready to do anything they can to bring you true Texas hospitality. The restaurant is clean, including the staff. From the moment you walk in you just want to sit and relax, the atmosphere is incredibly comfortable. Your server, no matter who it is, will be attentive and knowledgeable. The food, unlike anything you will find anywhere else in Oklahoma. Everything, from their giant and tender Cheese Steak Sandwich, to their beef tips in mashed potatoes, to their big and juicy signature steaks is worth the little extra money you'll spend there. If you are near the Sooner Mall, it's a great place to take guests, conduct business lunches, or just fine with the family no matter what time of day. Don't waste your time at a ace like chuy's.
