We recently moved to Norman from Fort Worth Texas. On the particular day we had decided to visit a 3 year old had drown in little elm Texas close to our families home. We visited this water park as our first family outing. I haven’t been to a water park yet that doesn’t allow coast guard approved life jackets. Until May 27th when I visited Westwood Family Aquatic Center.
First a customer service lady had told us we weren’t allowed to used the life jackets I clearly had in my hand. After we had just paid and entered the gate. And points me to their provided life jackets. So I walk over to the man handing them out and looked him in the face and asked “do you have one that fits our sons they’re 1 & 2” he says “yes” carelessly and points me to one of the smaller jackets. And I asked him “what’s the weight limit on them?” He looks and tells me 30-50lbs” and I say no they won’t fit our sons are 24lbs our COAST GUARD APPROVED LIFE JACKETS are for under 30lbs. So you’d rather chance my baby drowning because you don’t have accommodations for them. Again it’s coast guard approved.” He annoyingly tells me “hey it’s not my rule. Would you like to speak to a manager” and I said “ yes of course because my children are not swimming without a lifejacket and you do not have one that fits”
As I look up i see at least 3 infant/toddlers with life jackets they’re WAY oversized. And I have a mother approach us while we’re waiting for a manager and he AGAIN tries to point the mother towards a life jacket that is an improper fit. I told the mother “no that life jacket is way to big it’s for 30-50 lbs” and the man shrugs his shoulders and tells her it’s up to her !!!
We wait about 20 minutes before a manager comes. And he proceeds to tell me how he is going to explain their rule to me. And so I ask him “ so you would let my child drowned instead of allowing me to use a proper life jacket that is again Coast Guard approved.” He gives me an uncomfortable looking tells me “no that is not what I mean it is just our rule” so I ask for a refund and he tries to further speak with me about it and of course I refuse I told him again “my children are not swimming without a lifejacket and you don’t have one for them.” Then he adds on they have some on order that haven’t arrived yet. Regardless weather or not they have any on order it doesn’t make it any better that they would rather make my child swim without a life jacket or with an improper fitting life jack.
When we went for a refund since we paid with card they couldn’t give us one they had to “email” their financial department to refund our card at a later date. Of course this is not an issue when it comes to my child’s life either way we wouldn’t have stayed. Money cannot replace a child.
This to me is so appalling, they have a position here to educate themselves to point out to parents a proper fitting life jackets to potentially save a child life and they’re ignorantly trying to pass out life hacks to children under 30 lbs! If a parent puts a 30-50lbs jacket on a child under 30lbs this water park is responsibile for that child death if it cannot protect them like a life jacket is intended to do!
YOU ARE NOT ABOVE THE COAST GUARD. You are an ignorant irresponsible party. Make an exception or don’t pass out life jackets that are not...
Read moreI wouldn’t even give them one star only reason I am so it can Post but I absolutely will never recommend this facility to anyone especially not a black family because this facility is most definitely racial and very discriminating against BLACK KIDS. Everyone say there good and reasonable which is a lie not only was I in line for 30min they allowed me to ensure with my family and grandkids. They searched my bag and just said we couldn’t have the chips which was fine and I through them away. Then I was charged $64 dollars for me and my grandkids/family to enter the facility to begin with and they also seen the swim diapers while paying, and when we walked in before I through the chips away. Then went and spent $54.50 on Food and another $12 dollars on Ice Cream so they could eat a little before they went to swim. After they were done eating everything as we were walking them to go swim they approached me to let me know that my Grandsons weren’t allowed to swim without their trunks when they allowed us to enter the facility with their Swim Diapers on which by the way I seen others kids wearing the same Swim Diapers that I was just told wasn’t allowed. And not one time did I see anyone approach that family and have them removed so at that point I ask for a Refund the same day which was July 25, 2025 and here it is August 14th and I still haven’t received my refund yet just the run arounds. I was told 7-10 business days I called back on the 12th day because I was trying to give it more time just to be told this all of a sudden there refunds go through Norman Main Office called them they referred me back to the pool and said that was inaccurate so they don’t understand why I was told that. Just to get a call back now saying it goes through their Finance Department at this point I’m just trying to figure it out because not only were we racially profiled and discriminated against since I most definitely again seen others kids without their trunks and also had on just Swim Diapers the same ones my grandkids had on that you go buy for your kids to swim. My Grandkids cried the whole time they were escorting us out because they wanted to stay and swim at this point I’m still waiting and I still want my Refund so does anyone know who and where else I contact to receive my money back because obviously I’m not going to get any help from the staff there and or...
Read moreThe renovation of the pool is great, and if I wrote the review after the first 2 or 3 times I'd gone, it'd be a 4 star probably, but we've gone every Friday for a couple months and we've been overlooking the problems and annoyances due to how much fun we're having, but every single time there's some kind of person who ruins the fun. This time, I get pulled to the side and told that I was trying to drown people and "drown myself" in the pool, by the manager of a 16 year old life guard. She didn't walk up with the intent to have a discussion or to be in any way cordial or civil about it, she was chastising and dismissive of anything I had to say, regardless of whether her teenage lifeguard was fabricating a story because he got mad I told him bye and waved when he left the seat. Each time we went someone had something to say and they apologized to us each time for how someone had been. We were told our daughter couldn't go down the slide we walked to the top to, even though we'd been down it 2 or 3 weeks in a row multiple times, they were rude at first and wanted to measure her height, and then apologetic when they were wrong. It's a very fun and cool place that is being EXTREMELY poorly supervised. I stood next to the manager to discuss with her and her lifeguard for over 5 minutes and she refused to acknowledge me and then when I said "Ma'am" she walked off and said I could leave. It's unfortunate that we'll have to make the drive to a different pool since this one is so neat and so close, but you don't want your children or the stress of having to deal with these lifeguards. Read half the reviews, it's people who work here or friends of theirs that are making the reviews. We'll probably come back next year to see if they've made any intelligent decisions with the people they employ, but I'm...
