Taste of India — Restaurant in Norman

This place use to be my favorite restaurant in Norman, but I must explain why I will never be back. I ate here easily 100 times over several years, but I moved out of state for two years and recently moved back to Norman. I was excited to go back for the first time in two years, but I was quickly disappointed and I walked out before I even sat down. The first thing I noticed when I walked in was there was no buffet, and then the first table on my left had a massive mess on it, with a ton of rice all over the floor. Then I noticed that there were only a couple tables that had been cleaned. The place was filthy. We stood there for a good minute, waiting to be seated, but finally headed over to a booth.

Before my wife and I could even sit down, the hostess ran out of the kitchen and said with a real attitude, "Can you eat fast? We close at 2:00." She didn't say hello or welcome us or even let us sit down. Mind you, it was only 1:25. I was shocked at being treated in this way, and I said, "Oh I am so sorry to inconvenience you, we will take our business to an establishment that is happy to have it."

It is customary for a restaurant to seat and serve customers if they come in before closing time. Obviously, as a customer I avoid walking into a restaurant if it is 15 or 20 minutes before close. I don't want to be that customer who walks in the last minute and keeps the whole crew around. No matter what time I've ever walked into a restaurant, I've never been asked to eat fast and leave. I've never been treated so rudely at a restaurant in my life. If the owners don't want people walking in and ordering after around 1:30, then they need to close their doors at that time. 1 Star, very sneaky, shoddy business, to lure customers in the restaurant and change the terms at the last minute......POOR BUSINESS....

Would not honor the groupon, was told that it was for Dinner menu and NOT buffet. The GroupOn only says Dinner and does not specify only a menu item or buffet.

I placed a printer copy of the groupon with the bill, and the waiter came by and I hadn't place my credit card with the bill yet, the waiter notice the printed groupon and picked it up and told me this groupon was for lunch only, I then told him and showed that it says "Dinner" on the groupon, he then changed his tune and said, "Oh, this is for Dinner Menu only" and"it is NOT for the dinner buffet" I then asked where on the groupon it that it specified that it says Dinner menu only, he could not answer than as the groupon doesn't specify it, but kept on repeating that this is for dinner menu only. He would not honor the groupon and I had to pay full price for the dinner. When I paid the bill and left I checked the front door area for any signs that have a groupon disclaimer about dinner menu or buffet OR any kind of sign changing the terms of any groups. and there was NOT any notifications to customers about any change in the groupons offered or redeemed at this restaurant. Norman is SO lucky to have a place like Taste of India around. Despite the large selection of restaurants in Norman, Indian food seems to be one of the few cuisines that isn't as well-represented. I didn't know what to expect when some of my friends ordered Taste of India for a get-together, but wow did they ever meet and surpass my expectations! In the months since, I've tried much of their menu - including their samosa, pakora, biryani, vindaloo, tikka and so on. Their entrees are packed with intense, but nuanced flavors and spices, and the portions are substantial enough for 2+ meals. My personal favorite is their chicken chili masala - which comes with huge nuggets of tender, marinated chicken doused in this rich, spicy and creamy sauce. As someone who cooks a lot, it takes something special to really leave an impression. The first time I tried the chili masala, I was literally left speechless - it's the best thing I've eaten in Norman, and one of the best entrees I've had period.
