Taqueria El Gordo — Restaurant in North Canton

I thrive on taco trucks. Passing by I noticed a new one. The name was intriguing as it was reminiscent of an amazing spot I used to frequent on the west coast. I stopped in, and was pleasantly surprised to see a small, very focused menu. Then I was absolutely amazed to see Birria Ramen. I ordered it without hesitation. The service was excellent, the food was prepared very quickly. I had a wonderful conversation with the owner while I waited, and left with my order about 10 minutes later.

The first word that came to mind when I tried this dish was “ridiculous”. I’ve had Birria Ramen over the years from different places (none in Ohio btw), and the verdict is: this man’s food is not to be missed.

The beef was done perfectly. The broth was impeccable, with plenty of flavor. The rojo sauce is sublime. The noodles are reminiscent of childhood. This perfectly encapsulates the spirt of “late night taco spot” I told him I’d be back and that’s not a lie. This might be my new favorite truck of all time.

Having enjoyed this food truck once before, my husband and I indulged in a delightful smorgasbord. The chips, queso, and beans were a fantastic start, leading into a tempting selection of tacos. Each variety – chorizo, beef, chicken, and carne asada – was truly superb! The highlight for us was venturing to try the tongue taco for the first time, and it was an absolute revelation! The flavor and tenderness were incredible, bringing to mind the comforting taste of pot roast. The young men running the truck are exceptionally kind and clearly dedicated owners. They even surprised us with complimentary sodas that perfectly complemented our meal; the apple soda was a personal favorite! My taste for authentic Mexican food is extremely up to par…..
