The Airfield Cafe is set back off of Lafayette Rd in North Hampton contributing to its status as "if you didn't know it was there, you wouldn't know it was there". But believe me you want to find this place. I actually overheard a customer talking to a postal clerk about the Cafe's famous foot long lobster rolls for $17 while waiting in line. My wife and I went on a lazy Sunday and because it is 25 miles from where we lived we didn't arrive until 1PM (Airfield Cafe closes at 2P daily). Despite the time, there were parties waiting to be seated - but since it was just we two, the hostess got us seated almost immediately at the end of the counter - great view of the entire place! I had eggs benedict on crab cakes with a side of bacon and homefries along with what had to be a 20 oz oj - were they out of the right size glass, did the waitress make a mistake, was this their usual LG oj glass? From the perfectly cooked eggs Benedict to the crispy 4 slice side of bacon, to the Maryland style crabcakes and well seasoned homefries all were cooked beyond words can convey. My wife had a Jumbo Jet ...needless to say more than half came home. We couldn't leave without taking two of their House Special Lobster Rolls that originally brought me here. I got mine with fries and the Mrs. chose coleslaw so we could could both have some of each. Well I have to say, I do not ever recall having two meals in the same day from the same restaurant- I couldn't be happier that I did and I now have a new Sunday breakfast restaurant! And true to its name, the theme is all things aviation! The overhead model airplanes of diverse genres on a continuous rotating carousel is unique and so much fun to watch!...
Read moreAfter having (a very expensive) brunch here yesterday, I don't understand all these rave reviews. We had the smoked brisket eggs benedict and the country fried steak with sausage gravy. I asked our waitress how the brisket was served and she said it was shredded with a light sauce. Instead it was two of the thinnest slices of dried out brisket I've ever had in my life topped with overcooked poached eggs (no runny yolks) and the home fries I requested "crispy" tasted more like boiled potatoes with a heavy herb flavor. A female manager standing behind the counter heard me complain to my Hubby about my eggs and asked me if I wanted new ones, but that's never the right option when you have to wait until new ones are cooked and everything else gets cold. Hubby's steak was tough and the gravy had minimal sausage in it, so it wasn't flavorful at all. Another disappointment for us was the customer service. Our waitress never checked in with us about coffee refills or to make sure all was okay with our meals, even after she found out about my overcooked eggs. At one point I had to get up to get my own napkins and the two plates of food we noticed waiting at the pass for several minutes due to our missing waitress, ended up being our breakfasts. For two poorly cooked breakfasts and two coffees, we spent $54. Yes, the location is super cool when planes come in and land, but there are too many other breakfast/brunch options in this area that take pride in serving delicious food with excellent customer service. I'm not into wasting my money at restaurants who don't care about the quality of food or service they provide. Will...
Read moreWe went to the Café because we needed to pick up unleaded ethanol free gas from the airfield and noticed this café had good ratings. We went on a Friday in November at around 1:30pm. They close at 2PM BTW. The staff was extremely nice as others have mentioned in their reviews. Very clean. It was busier than I though it would be for a weekday, but there were plenty of seats. We sat outside. We hoped to see 1 maybe 2 planes landing or taking off, but maybe since it was a nice day, there were at least 6 - 10 planes taking off or landing while we were there. This is a small airfield, so all the planes were since prop small planes. The food was excellent. Everything tasted fresh. The French Toast that I had was extremely large. I brought half of it home, the pictures probably don't show how thick it was. We will be going back again! By the way, the gas for lawn tractors etc is located to the right of the airfield building on a paved area off the edge of the tarmac. The airfield building itself is to the right of the Café. You can buy gas there 24/7. You pay at a kiosk just to the side of the pumps. Make sure you select mogas for motor vehicle gas. You have to carry your gas cans from the parking area about 40 feet away. Not a big deal. I paid $6.10 for it; which, for ethanol free gas at 91 octane is a good price. I drove 45 minutes to get this gas, and it's worth it to not destroy my...
