We ordered lunch menu with Paneer Tikka Masala and a couple of other items. Their menu description for Paneer Tikka Masala says: “Paneer Tikka Masala-Lunch Cottage cheese served in a tikka masala sauce” No where it says that this dish has nuts.
Even after ordering this dish, I called the restaurant and talked to the lady who picked up the phone. I asked her whether any items we had ordered for lunch has nuts, including Paneer Tikka Masala. She said there are no nuts in any of this items we ordered. She was very confident in her answer.
After her confirmation, I told my daughter that she can now have the Paneer Tikka Masala. My daughter is severely allergic to all forms of nuts and can have anaphylaxis attack (which can be deadly.) As soon as she started eating Paneer Tikka Masala, she immediately started having allergies. Thank God she stopped eating just before her symptoms got worse. She took Benadryl immediately to alleviate the worsening allergy. Fortunately, we didn’t have to call 911 or rush her to the hospital.
I immediately called back the restaurant and asked the lady who picked up the phone again to verify that the food had any nuts. She again says there are no nuts. I asked her to talk to the chef inside the kitchen and verify. I told her what happened to my daughter. Finally she got back the reply and tells me that Paneer Tikka Masala has cashew nuts. Can you believe this? I was definitely angry to hear this. She then started apologizing profusely when I told her about the severity of nut allergies and how it can be deadly. I asked her to educate herself on all the dishes so that she provides correct answers to customers next time someone calls. Also, I told her to ask the manager to call me back.
The manager called me back later on and I expressed my dissatisfaction and disappointment and told him what happened. He tells me that the menu at the restaurant shows that the Paneer Tikka Masala has cashews. I told him the restaurant menu on Yelp, Grubhub and even their own website does not show this item having nuts. And even his own staff is completely unaware of this. I advised him to update the menus immediately everywhere and share which items have nuts.
My daughter had recovered to 80% within a couple of hours. She felt really bad that she couldn’t eat the Paneer Tikka Masala and told me never to trust the Indian restaurant people again unless you really know the place and are 150% sure.
My daughter also asked me whether the owner gave me refund? The owner did not offer me any refund either (I didn’t ask.) Hoping this restaurant learns from this experience, and improves their menu and communications… someone else would be suing them for what just happened!
Update: The owner reached out to me and has promised to update the menus everywhere and also...
Read moreThis was our first time trying this restaurant, and we were pleasantly surprised! The ambience and lighting were perfect, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Service was quick, and our waitress was super friendly and knowledgeable—a real highlight of our visit.
I was looking for a dry version of Gobi Manchurian, and she recommended the Lasuni Gobi, which turned out to be a fantastic choice. It had just the right amount of crispiness and a flavor profile that all of us thoroughly enjoyed. Highly recommend this if you’re a fan of gobi!
The chicken drumsticks had a good flavor but were a bit on the sweet side for my husband’s taste. On the other hand, the masala dosa was a showstopper—amazing size and portion! The real star of the night was the prawn curry—perfect texture, spice, and flavor. My daughter and husband absolutely loved it and had a mini feast. The spinach chaat was just okay—not a standout for us—but the Gutti Vankaya (stuffed eggplant curry) was a lovely surprise. Mild yet flavorful, and the eggplant was incredibly soft and tender.
My only disappointment was not being able to try the Indian Taco, which I was really looking forward to. Unfortunately, it’s only served during lunch, which the waitress informed us about—definitely a bummer.
Overall, a great experience with a wide variety of Indian dishes—we’ll definitely be back...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of dining at Kochin Hut, and I can confidently say it's one of the best Indian dining experiences I've had in a long time.
From the moment we walked in, the warm hospitality and cozy atmosphere made us feel right at home. The staff was friendly, attentive, and more than happy to walk us through the menu and recommend dishes based on our preferences.
The food was absolutely phenomenal—fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. We started with the chicken 65 and vegetable samosas, both packed with bold spices and perfectly cooked. For mains, the Kerala-style fish curry was a standout—rich, tangy, and authentically spiced. We also tried the beef fry and appam, which were both incredibly satisfying and reminded us of home-cooked South Indian meals.
Vegetarian options were just as impressive, especially the avial and sambar. The flavors were balanced and vibrant, and everything tasted freshly made. The parottas were soft, flaky, and perfect for soaking up the delicious gravies.
To finish off, we had payasam, which was light, fragrant, and not overly sweet—just perfect.
Kochin Hut is a true gem for anyone craving authentic South Indian (especially Kerala-style) cuisine. Whether you're new to the flavors of the region or a longtime fan, this place delivers a truly memorable experience. Highly...
