Please note that I have refrained from writing previous reviews in the hopes that each experience was just, "a mishap." However, every single time my family and I have ordered from Bapsang, it has been a sporadic mixed bag. While I am giving a couple stars for how hot everything was upon take-out and their service, (with a 50 minute wait time for our order as opposed to the previously expressed 30 minutes), there are some issues with menu description, value and consistency to what is actually served.
The "Hot Pot Bulgogi Stew" is more of loose thin and oily soup. It had 2 single sweet potato noodles, overboiled beef, and a broth so lack luster that it only left a film of salt on your tongue. There were also only "3 mushrooms" - and it was their stems.
The rice provided was overcooked, and unusually moist (?) and flavorless. It did not do the bimbimbap any favors, which is saddening since the rice is a pretty fundamental component to a yummy bibimbap. Additionally, the chicken mandu were not only tiny but relatively bland, even with the hot as hell spicy chili sauce. Then we have the pajeon - not crispy at all but a tad floppy and seeping with oil. Unsure of what happened there... Lastly, the kimchi trio was a tiny assortment 2 fl oz serving contianers with partially full components.
One silver lining is that my husband's tteokbokki has continuously been stellar - and I agree! The rice cakes were nice and plump, and the stewed sauce is a perfect balance of Gochujang heat and sweetness from the onions.
Honestly, for spending approximately $80, it felt very ill composed and unrewarding. We have tried very hard to like Bapsang, but unfortunately this is our last hurrah. We wish them the utmost best in their endeavors, no less and hope that they continue to improve...
Read moreI went here with a friend and the service was disappointing. It was busy when we went in, so I understand if there was a mistake or two since I also work at a restaurant , but there was too much. We were seated automatically when we got in, and not given a menu. Another table of two came in five minutes after us, and after around a 10 minute wait, their table was able to get a menu before us. After looking at the menu, we waited for a server to take our order, and once again the people who came in later orders were taken before us.
After they took our order, we sat and waited for 20-30 minutes, and we were presented a dish we didn’t order. That was when they found out they forgot to put the order in altogether. They did apologize for the mistake, but by now, the people who came in after us are finishing up their entrees, and we haven’t even gotten an appetizer. After another 10-15 minute wait, we finally got our food.
I will say the food here is very good. From their appetizers to entrees, I wouldn’t say I have a single complaint about the food.
I finished my food, but my friend still had about half her bowl left. We were given a bill, but the server haven’t even asked us if we were finished up even with my friends plate of food still being full. We wanted dessert as well, so we had to wait for them to come back, and then order the dessert.
Overall, the food here is amazing, but the service I was given was just disappointing. It was like we were neglected...
Read moreDelicious! This is a really nice, cute little place. I'm glad we decided to stop by after hearing so many good things about it.
It's a small dining room, but attractively decorated, and that just means the staff can be extra attentive to everyone. :) They were all friendly and helpful. We chatted with them a bit, and the Chef came out to explain some menu items to us. A lovely staff, in all. They explained their alcohol selection, and we all tried the 13% ABV, fruit-flavored "Soju," in various flavors. Highly recommend. It's vaguely like a wine cooler.
We got the tofu & kimchi appetizer, the shrimp appetizer, two bibimbaps, a noodle dish, and a BBQ dish. All of those were great choices. The kimchi and tofu here are absolutely a-mazing, as are all the sauces we had. I could eat an entire gallon of their kimchi, and the tofu was nice and silky. My BBQ short ribs (served as DIY lettuce wraps) were killer, with an amazing peanut sauce, and we all had leftovers. They were all nice, large portions. We were also offered several refills of our sides.
My only regret is that we didn't have room for dessert! The honey bread sounded really interesting. We took home a take-out menu and will...
