My first visit to the Beav, yes, I coined this nickname, as we felt right at home from the moment we stepped inside. We had the pleasure of having Jane as our server. You have all heard of an Old Salt, well Jane is the definition of an Old Salt in the hospitality industry. This is not an insult to Jane, just the opposite. Clearly, she has been doing this for a long time, and any server could benefit from her knowledge and experience. We found her to be attentive, fast, and hysterical. Her humor made my husband laugh, which is no easy task, lol. We started with Big Axe Wings, and with a variety of sauces to choose from, we opted for the buffalo honey mustard. We had them fried then girlled as this was another option. They were amazing. The reuben was my husband's top choice, but they were out. He has been here once before, and says it is the best reuben he has ever had. It's not surprising that they ran out of this popular choice. The Alabama Slamma was his 2nd choice and he was very pleased with it. I chose the Lumberjack Steak, the hoagie rolls were so soft and fresh, the shaved steak with caramelized onions and cheese was so delicious that I want to go back right now. You get the usual selection of fries, salads, and so on. For the price, the portions are very generous. I noticed they had a pup patio wherepatrons enjoyed a beautiful sunny day with their pups. I love places that allow outdoor dining, and especially places that have an area for our furry friends. We were seated next to a garage door constructed out of windows that occupied most of the wall, giving the interior a unique look. There are no booths, only tables, but they are spaced far enough apart so you don't feel crowded. Thirsty Beaver's atmosphere, service, and food were extremely impressive to me, and I look forward to returning...
Read moreDecided to stop by after a long day working in the yard. First impression walking in: big open garage vibe with high ceilings and cement floors. The sound of bar stools screeching across the floor didn’t help the ambiance. I grabbed a seat and ordered a Muse—nice to see some lesser-known local brews on tap.
For an evening in the upper 60s, it was surprisingly cold inside. The high ceilings and constantly running fans made it drafty—definitely bring a jacket. The woman next to me at the bar had her arms tucked into her jacket and looked just as chilly.
Took a look at the menu but nothing really stood out. Given the quirky branding and Rhode Island location, I expected more creativity—maybe something seasonal, seafood-focused, or a fresh twist on New England comfort food. Instead, it was mostly deep-fried and cheese-covered.
I went with the Old Smoky. Burger was cooked well, but the smooth edges were a dead giveaway that it was a frozen patty. And why is every burger on a brioche bun? Mine was soggy before I even picked it up. A real burger deserves a potato roll, pretzel bun, or at least something toasted and sturdy.
Overall vibe? Classic “upscale bar food trying to be clever.” The pun-heavy names (Obi-Wan Pierogi, Justin Beaver Bites) felt more forced than fun. Way too many fried items—tortellini, pickles, mozz bites, cauliflower, pierogies... it felt like a state fair menu.
Unless it's a hot day and you're just popping in for a cold beer, I'd probably skip a...
Read moreHave been a fan of Thirsty Beaver since I originally lived near the Cranston location. That one is a bit tight on space , love it, but gets a little loud and elbow to elbow. When the NK location opened we gave it a try and loved it. More laid back vs Cranston (not a ding to either, just different crowds) and a much bigger space that isn't as loud to be in. Overall I've never had a bad meal here, same with my wife as well. My father-in-law ordered the cape cod Ruben and it came out on the tough side. That being said we were having a good time and drinks were brought quickly so he didn't want to complain. I'm 100% positive they would have made it right if he had said it.
Probably a one-off situation on that meal as I've been here a good 6 to 7 times with different people and never had that issue before, stuff happens.
Good beer selection, wife and mother-in-law had mixed drinks they loved.
Space to Probably bring in larger groups without to much trouble. Of course check with them!
If you like brew pub upscale bar food and good drink selection I would check them out at any location, but NK is my choice for being with a few people.
*Adding a begging edit to the owner since they responded so quickly - Please Bring back/start doing the egg rolls again! That was my go to when I would go to the Cranston...
