North Little Rock has been lacking a quality pizza option, with all the fast-food type pizza outlets, overrated local pizza fare, and disappointing, franchised-owned conglomerates. Hideaway was a welcome site along Warden Road, and upon hearing the reviews of friends and family who have paid patronage to the Oklahoma locations, I was ready, along with my co-workers. First of all, I usually remove a mark because of beverage choice - I am a Coca-Cola enthusiast and revile Pepsi, for the most part. Overlooking that flaw, I mustered my anticipation and settled on a 50-50 order of mushrooms (world-famous, as claimed) and mozzarella cheese sticks. Mushrooms definitely were not previously frozen and the batter was fantastic. The mozzarella sticks were superb, and a very, very fulfilling appetizer as a whole, so be prepared. On to the main course - for lunch, you have an option of $3 off all small pizzas, $2 off pastas, and $1 off salad additions. I chose a small pizza, with pepperoni and salami, hand tossed, with traditional red sauce. The crust had bubbles, charring, and a nice, dark, golden color to let me know this was a pizza oven cook, no conveyor belts allowed here. A well put-together hand tossed has a nice crunch, along with a soft inner core, and it was spot on. The sauce, as a proper pizza should exhibit, provided more than just a base - it enhanced the flavor through the herbs and fresh flavors. The pepperoni, a traditional, round, sliced variant, combined with a julienned salami, was cooked to a slight crisp, but not overdone. After a load of mushrooms, mozzarella sticks, and a co-workers appetizer of cheesy garlic bread, I had to stop before my last piece. The menu suggests a small pizza would serve 1-2, but I would err on the side of caution and make sure there is an appetizer and/or desert to get two people to share a small. On the soft beverage side, the sweet tea more than made up for the Pepsi choices so no knocks off of a perfect score there.
The service, which was expectedly prompt opening day, didn't disappoint. Managers were always around to make sure the operation ran smoothy, but I imagine the attention would die down after a while, but here's to hoping the quality and attentiveness maintains.
The décor is welcoming, with a fantastic mural of images from around Arkansas's natural beauty submitted by the masses. The dining room was a decent size, along with a few large TVs for sports viewing. Hideaway serves a good portion of local, Arkansas-brewed beers, although I do not drink alcohol, the bar looks well appointed.
All in all, I am in danger - I work a whopping 0.2 miles away, so I have a feeling weekly visits are in order for the foreseeable future. World-class pizza is within walking distance and I highly recommend Hideaway...
Read moreFamily of 11 came Sunday at lunch time. Because we were a bigger group we let the hostess know we would be happy to help by splitting up. The hostess told us 20 minutes, which on Sunday at lunch isn't bad. We ended up waiting 45 minutes and split. Okay, so we can over look that. We were seated in the bar area. Not sure if it is normal for a busy bar tender to wait on tables in the bar area or not, but it should never be that way. The bar tender should stay behind the bar when the bar is busy. Though the management apparently doesn't mind either the tables or the bar to go unattended. We put our drink order, appetizer order, and food order all in at the same time seeing how we had already been waiting 45 minutes. We were hungry and just needed food at this point. While the bar tender made countless drinks our tables were left without service. We asked a Manger (Clayton) to check on our order since we had been waiting at our table with nothing, except drinks. Said manager went to the kitchen and came right out with our appetizers, that were now cold. Garlic cheese bread is great while hot, pretty gross cold. Then the unbelievable wait for our pizzas came. Again, we asked a manager (Clayton again) about our order, at this time he gets pretty rude in stating that the establishment was busy and just kept responding with "sorry, we are busy". All while our big group was there another larger (20 or so) group was there and this group was seated after us, got drinks before us, appetizers before us, and food before us. Might I say we were there 10 minutes before them, seated 10 minutes before them, and gave all of our orders at once to speed the process up. All this to say... if you don't mind bad service, rude manager, and cold food with a long wait, go-ahead and go to Hideaway Pizza North...
Read moreMy first time there, I WILL BE BACK. It has been a while since I had a really GREAT Pizza. It seem like after the pandemic, pizza (as did almost everything) started lacking in quality of product and mainly SERVICE. I don't know that for sure, but it seems like it to me. BUT HIDEAWAY PIZZA didn't forget how to make AMAZING food or how OUTSTANDING service works. My Sister and I had the Famous Fried Mushrooms as a starter (we share everything) even the 1/2 portion was HUGE. Let me just say, there is a reason it is called Famous Fried Mushrooms. They were perfectly battered, the Mushrooms were still the star, tender and piping hot to our table, served with a Marinara sauce and a wonderful Ranch (the Ranch was my preference). We then ordered the Lasagna-I didn't think I wanted pizza (WRONG). Typically at a Pizza Restaurant the "Other Things" are not so great maybe frozen or at the very least, boring. NOT SO AT Hideaway..It was one of the best Lasagna's I have ever had (again my sister and I share and she said the same). But no question the STAR of the show was the PIZZA. We had a half "ATW" and half "The Boz". WOW, the crust was crispy, tons of toppings..seriously how could you pick which one was best. Even though the Lasagna was amazing, I will definitely order the Pizza next time. I look forward to trying more of their specialty choices. PLUS the wait staff and all the staff were fantastic, so friendly and (bless their hearts)were so patient with us as we struggled to make up our minds with all the "menu goodness" looking at us..SERIOUSLY HOW DO YOU DECIDE. The food and staff almost made us forget the sadness that our beloved Razorbacks (basketball we watched there) lost by 3 points to Alabama. Thanks Hideaway for the...
