Diamond in the Rough
Highlights: Excellent, cooked-to-order Cajun food. Courteous staff. Simple but clean dining area, designed more for take-out than dining in. Will return!
A friend and I flew into Little Rock for a business trip and had a desire for Cajun food. The first restaurant that popped up online was Mr. Cajun Kitchen.
The restaurant is located on the edge of a neighborhood in North Little Rock. If the building wasn’t painted purple we may have driven right passed it.
Walking in, the restaurant had four tables and a large TV. Simple but clean. If the owners want to move away from take-out to a dine I recommend for them to invest in decor to make the ambiance feel more welcoming. This is the only reason why I gave MCK 4/5 stars.
The gentleman who took my order was courteous, helpful when explaining the menu, and patient with my indecisiveness since the menu was extensive.
The gentleman was upfront about food prep taking 20-25 minutes. Why? The food was cooked to order and it was worth the wait. Portion size was large and food was fresh.
Spiciness was 2/5. Gentleman at the counter told us during our order the chef could make our food more or less spicy. I like my food spicy so next time I will request a 4/5.
I encourage everyone to give Mr Cajun Kitchen a try. You won’t be disappointed in this gem of a mom-&-pop restaurant. However, you better get there early since they...

Read moreThe food USED to be really good here. I could always count on getting a delicious bowl of gumbo from Mr. Cajun’s. Even though the portion isn’t the greatest for the price, it was consistent. It’s been a while since I’ve visited this restaurant and the quality, flavor, taste and presentation of the food has definitely changed. Rice is supposed to ACCOMPANY the gumbo, not consume it. I basically paid $11 for a bowl of rice with a very light colored, bland “gumbo” on the side with one piece of shrimp. I understand food costs are rising and that effects pricing, but a customer should never feel as though they’re being cheated. As a Cajun restaurant if you can’t get your gumbo right, it shouldn’t be offered that day. We also ordered the jambalaya pasta and have the same regards to portions and bland flavor. Overwhelming pasta, little ingredients and barely...
