I give it a 4.5 stars, (5* menu originality, 4* restaraunt style, 4.5* taste and 4.5* value with a $$ rating for price). To end the service was professional and friendly. We stopped by for early Sunday lunch for our 1st time. I was surprised how comfortable and decorated the restaraunt was. It actually felt like a small-town standalone Mexican restaraunt in Cozumel even though it is located in a small strip center. First...they have the typical Margaritas but they also have homemade juice like Lemonade and other Mexican juice drinks. The house provided Chips and Salsa. The Salsa was great!!! The house Chips were "not so great" as they were too thick and hard for our taste. I ordered the Mole Chicken Enchiladas that came with refried Black Beans and Rice. The sauce was the typical Mexican dark mole sauce and made great! The chocolate was a little heavy but the spices really evened it out. The chicken was shreaded white breast a day plenty of it! The dish became too rich on the 3rd Enchillada but I finished it! My only complaint is that the Mole Sauce was over cooked around the edge of the plate like it sat under a heat lamp a little too long. PS...I give the yellow rice and black beans a strong 5 for a side dish. My wife ordered the Carne Asada and was simply FANTASTIC! It actually is a flank steak marinated and served with a light thin wet sauce with red onions. The steak was perfectly cooked well-done for my wife. However, the steak was still tender and not dry. Of course, I had to taste it! I simply wanted to go back for dinner for that steak. This has to be the money plate!! I highly recommend it!!! To end...if you are looking for a 4.5 star authentic Mexican Restaurant this is the place. We want to to go back when we are in the mood for Tacos. I will update this review then.

When you think of an amazing dinner either with friends, family or your partner, you really want it to be impeccable. Service: Waiter, Pedro, with a vast knowledge of what he sells exceeded my expectations. Description of the drinks, main dishes, dishes of the day, desert, etc made it so easy to decide what I really wanted to try today. Ambience/Atmosphere: Quiet, mellow, familiar, romantic...simply comfortable for any occasion. Food: WOW...a well prepared dish, from scratch with a perfect presentation. Chips, freshly made with a home made sauce, was just the beginning of an amazing journey. Not selecting the Octopus a la Yucateca was a maybe a great opportunity to make me visit the place a second time. However, Pollo a la Yucateca was, on the other hand a flavored choiced. Well marinated chicken breast, cooked with a particular sauce, was incredibly delicious: soft, juicy, well cooked and unique. Molcajete de Carne was prepared in a way that would transport you to your grandmother's kitchen. With a special touch that would bring memories from your childhood. Un Carajillo, a special drink with coffee, liquor and grounded peanut, would make an outstanding ending, always accompanied with a flan, which has a special secret recipe. I would recommend this restaurant to everyone, even if it is one time in your life, but you would enjoy it and would create delightful memories.

After spending ten years traveling around Mexico and sampling everything edible (and some things not) I found this place soon after it opened--like 15 years ago or so. Reviewed it two years ago. What caught my attention was the Cochinita Pibil, an unusual Yucatecan pork dish that is rarely found outside of that region. I realize that it's hard to replicate many of the tastes of Mexico due to the differences in ingredients and the difficulty finding some of them, like epazote. This is one of them. Marinated in citrus and achiote, wrapped in banana leaves, then barbecued and shredded, it has an earthy, sweet taste that is incomparable. If it was truly authentic, it would be cooked in a hole in the ground. Their version is superb. Another recommended dishes is the mole poblano, a heavenly dish made with shredded chicken and a sauce made with like 137 ingredients including tortilla meal, chiles and chocolate. As a soup lover, I always order their tortilla soup, made with a broth of tomato, garlic, onion, chile de árbol and epazote. My companion had this plate with three delicious steak tacos on it that I completely ignored while diving into my own. Good Mexican beers that aren't all Corona. Waitress was attentive and humorous. Like most restaurants, they do have their occasional bad dish or server--just not when I'm around.

A Fall from Grace: Deeply Disappointing and Unprofessional Experience!

I've considered this restaurant my go-to spot for authentic Mexican food for a while. My first visit was fantastic—the bartender was amazing, the service was impeccable, and the food was truly delicious. It's because of that great initial experience that I returned today, but I'm sad to say it will absolutely be my last.

The disappointment started with the food. I ordered the ceviche, which has always been served in a generously large cup. I couldn't finish it at the restaurant, so I asked to take it home. When I got home, I discovered the portion in my to-go container was barely half of what I was originally served. I distinctly overheard who I believe was the manager or owner telling the kitchen that the portion was "too much," which leads me to believe they deliberately removed food from my container after I paid for it. This is beyond dishonest and left a very sour taste.

However, the most appalling part of the evening was the behavior of that same manager/owner. In full view of my wife and me, as well as other patrons, he was openly flirting with and grabbing the bartender's backside. This was not a subtle or consensual interaction; it was a blatant display of unprofessionalism and harassment in what is supposed to be a professional setting.

While the food itself is still good, the values of this establishment have clearly deteriorated. A restaurant is defined not just by its cuisine, but by its integrity and respect for both its customers and employees. To see a leader of the business engage in such behavior and sanction petty portion theft is shocking. I cannot, in good conscience, support a place that operates this way. There are too many other fantastic Mexican restaurants that deserve...

I have gone to Cheen Huaye since it opened. It was great in the beginning and then after a year or so, the owner started pushing South Beach Liquor prices on her Upper Biscayne location close to the dreadful smelly landfill across the way. Her aggressive sale techniques and over pricing on drinks lead us to not return until today to find that she has totally redone her restaurant and it is super sharp. I ordered pollo flautas and my other half ordered shrimp chili rellenos. The shrimp chili rellenos was amazing but, the chicken flautas tasted like nothing more than frozen heat and serve chicken taquitos. They were obviously not fresh made and they were not flautas at all. When I asked two different employees, they both said that maybe other restaurants serve the long flour versions with findable pollo inside, but they make the small three inch ones that are not any bigger than a cheap cigar. There was no apologies or offers to bring something else, not even a sorry it is not what you thought it was. The jalapeño margaritas used to be amazing and in a bowl glass. Today they are in the little cactus glass and they are no longer amazing. So, some of the food is great, some is not good at all; the drinks are no longer garnished with a half a jalapeño and lime, now it is an orange slice and a jalapeño slice; then there is service, you get the food quickly but don't expect them to come around and check on you, bring a flag, you will need it. Servers did not care if I was happy with my meal or not, they just appeared to want to process us through our meal and send us...
