I never leave Google reviews, but my experience at Rapone’s must be shared.
When entering the restaurant I was surprised to hear the pianist softly playing in the corner. I didn’t expect such a polished touch to what appeared, from the outside, as a quaint Italian eatery. This immediately informed me that I was about to have a dining experience that I haven’t had in a long time.
The dining area was small, but warm and inviting. A nice change from the large dining rooms of the chain Italian restaurant many are used to. The wait was only a few minutes and we were promptly led to our table.
The atmosphere inside was welcoming and not too loud. The soft, piano music was a nice foundation to conversations had that night. The repertoire from the pianist was pleasant. A mix of jazz, and older melodies strung together added a touch elegance to the evening.
After a few moments later we were greeted by our waitress, Lauren, who energetically delivered our drink order.
For the main course, I ordered the grilled salmon.
The salmon portion was generous compared to other restaurants and was pared with a delicious tomato basil cream sauce and served over a bed of fettuccini.
I truly wish I had the vocabulary to describe how amazing this dish was.
The salmon was juicy, and flakey - just as salmon should be. It was evident the salmon was fresh and hadn’t been frozen. The tomato basil cream sauce was out of this world, and savory on its own. With the perfect amount of basil to add complexity to the dish without being overpowering. The fettuccini was perfectly al dente. Anything less would have been a surprise given the perfection of the salmon and cream sauce.
I can’t remember the last time I felt sad after finishing a meal. This meal was so unequivocally delicious the end felt like saying goodbye to a close friend.
Rapone’s has been added to my list of favorite restaurants and I hope you...
Read moreI wish I didn’t have to write this. My family had one of the most painful and humiliating experiences while visiting North Myrtle Beach, and it happened at Rapone’s Pizza.
As a parent, nothing prepares you for the moment your children have to witness racism firsthand. We walked into Rapone’s with excitement to share a meal together while on vacation, only to be met with blatant bias and disrespect. While other families were being warmly welcomed and seated with no wait, we were inexplicably turned away. No clear explanation was given. Just a cold brush-off and glances exchanged between the host and the owner. who seemed to take pleasure in deciding, quite literally, who was allowed to sit and who was not.
It became painfully clear that we were not being denied service because of space or policy, but because of who we are. My children asked me why we weren’t allowed to eat there, and I had to explain something no child should have to understand so young: that sometimes, people still treat others unfairly based on how they look.
The emotional impact of that moment will stay with us. I left feeling heartbroken, angry, and helpless, not just for myself, but for my kids who had to experience that kind of ugliness during what should have been a joyful trip.
I will never support or recommend Rapone’s Pizza to anyone. No one deserves to be treated the way we were, especially not in front of their children. If you don't mind supporting businesses that discriminate and practice racist behavior eat here, if not, please take some time to find another place to fellowship with...
Read moreUnfortunately we will not return. We went on a Wednesday night on the off season with eight people. When we got there we were the only people in the restaurant. Ordered appetizers which came out very quickly. Drinks took about 10 minutes to come out. Mind you they were draft beers and poured wine. The bartender, who is missing a front tooth, seemed more occupied with chatting with waitstaff and the owner then making drinks. we ordered a second round and over 5 minutes after I took my son to the bathroom and saw the bartender chatting with the owner and servers while a string of bar tickets dangled from her printer. When I got out from the bathroom the bartender was still chatting and our drinks were not made. It took 15 minutes for me to get my draft beer. Our table of eight had a pretty easy order. Two pizzas, of pasta dish, and two calzones. When the food came out only one pizza, the pasta dish and one calzone came out. About 15 minutes later the other calzone came out. 15 minutes later (so a half hour after everyone else in our party got their meals) the other pizza wasn't out so we asked owr server and he said he forgot to put it in and asked us if he wanted us to still make it. But because I had to work the next morning I said just put it in a box. The server was very nice. We can't blame this on short staffed because they were a very well-staft it's just everybody was standing together chatting instead of helping their customers. But like I said our young blonde waiter was very nice it's just I don't think he had support of...
