REVIEW: Babe's Chicken 6700 NE Loop 820, North Richland Hills, TX 76180 This establishment serves food like Little House on the Prairie... FAMILY STYLE. So if more than one, it will be like, "Can you please pass the taters???" 😆 First & foremost, love the location and plenty of parking. Walked in through outdoor entrance which is a very large patio with tables and benches to sit. Very nice with stone and tile leading the way. The humongous (yes, I used that word) double steele doors moves you into a long hallway also called the chute. Tables and chairs are heavy and made of wood. Everything rustic and warm. Slightly dark (you know I'm old) yet coukd be romantic in a urban cowboy way. Server (10): Kae was outstanding... Very bubbley and outgoing. She always showed concern for anything and everything I needed and was very informative and attentive. Now onto the FOOD: (Mostly Everything Made to Oder) Biscuits (9): These babies were warm and super soft... With soft butter and honey, it hit the spot. Salad (7): was good with a homemade sweet tangy dressing, but it didn't have anything else but just lettuce. Left 75% on the plate. Roasted Smoked Leg (8): Skin was tasty with their in-house seasoning (apparently top secret) and meat was moist. On the very small side for $3, but at least I was able to try a piece. Fried Chicken (7 overall): Now before I proceed, I don't ever order white meat due to the reasons below... They only sell half Chickens (because this is how they are purchased)... Kind of irritating and I know why. For the same reasons I don't order them. They typically are dry. I am presuming most will not order white meat either hence needing to sell it as a half chicken. I prefer Thighs 99% of the time. Yet, I was sold a roasted Smoked Leg solo... Hmm. If they sold quarter pieces, that would be nice. Also, sides should be sold a la carte, but everything for $19, is not such a bad deal. So here we go: The Skin was crunchy and tasty. Leg (9.5): This piece was shockingly the best of everything of the night. It was tender, juicy, airy, and light. Entire Leg was phenomenal! Why this was the best piece and not the thigh is beyond me. Thigh (8): This piece was moist, but it didn't taste like the leg. Some areas were slightly dry. Breast (5): This of course was the largest piece. The meat was dense. The skin was slightly well-done, still good but the meat on this piece was 85% dry tasting. I didn't finish this piece. I left about 50% on the plate. Wing (1): Very small, almost no meat on the bone, only the skin was barely worth it. Now the Sides: Corn (8): They were warm and sweet, very tasty. Added pepper and they did not last. I inhaled these! Greens (6): These are slightly charred and cooked with bacon grease. There wasn't enough taste to them. They were cooked well. But the seasoning was lacking. Left 60% in the bowl. Mashed Potatoes (3): Barely lukewarm, tasted dense and store bought. I'm used to whipped, airy, creamy, and buttery potatoes... These were the opposite. Left 85% on the table. Gravy (5) Also was barely lukewarm. These are made with chicken grease but there wasn't enough seasoning. Left 90% on the table. Jalapeno (4): was hard and was an okay taste... La Costeña Jalapenos are some of the best! Unsweet Tea (8): was fresh and didn't taste brewery. Splenda and Lemons enhances it. Overall, it was a decent experience, not sure if I could go back considering they don't sell chicken by the piece or quarter. Not to mention, the chicken was inconsist. Maybe the Chicken Fried Steak could be something to consider. I didn't even know what the desserts were... Ugh! I may try their sister company Sweetie Pie's Ribeyes instead. On the Fence, "Big" Henry

First of all I like to say that the chicken was very good, like many other places. What I found to be discouraging is that they serve only family style menu so if you're eating with others that you are not close to it is kind of a deal-breaker. The other issues is that the menu is extremely limited and you are forced to eat green beans mashed potatoes gravy Instant) biscuits and corn. Some of these vegetables are not appetizing and there should be other choices. The salad was probably one of the worst salads that I've ever eaten and I mean that sincerely. It is strictly iceberg lettuce, which is actually okay, tossed in their vinaigrette style dressing. That's it! There is no tomato, red onion, pepper, cucumber, croutons, cheese ANYTHING else in the salad which would make it much more appetizing. The presentation of the food is just kind of all over the place and everything is served in big bowls. For the moderate pricing it seems as though you would be able to get your own size and eat like a normal human being without sharing bowls with strangers. The final straw for me was when I went to leave I asked for a takeout container and was refused, because they only allow you to utilize a very small clear plastic bag to take your meat or chicken out in. They will not provide a box for your take out leftovers. I asked the waiter why do I see other people with containers and he stated that is because they were getting food to go. I stated that it was very unsanitary and unacceptable to just grab a bag off of a post which they have located throughout the restaurant and put my chicken inside the clear plastic bag. Did they think I was going to try to steal their sweet and low or take home the green beans! My $60 tab could have been well utilized at Kentucky fried Chicken, Popeyes or Chicken Express, whereas I would have gotten a freaking box as well to take out my leftovers. The tea was good although they have no flavored teas. No big deal. And the chicken was very tasty and well prepared. Other than that I would never go back to this restaurant and I think that there are rules and policies are antiquated, stupid and I don't like being forced to eat certain foods. It seems to be there where the highway. I prefer to take the highway and I don't want to take my leftovers out of a restaurant in a clear small plastic bag like I'm a thief. I do not recommend this restaurant chain and I will not be back as this was my first and last visit. The place is extremely popular and the parking lot was packed. Scratching my head? The other people like dining in this fashion when there are so many other options that are better and even less expensive. And I don't mean fast food. That's the good and that's the bad and I meant every word

Update 06/11/2024 SHRINKFLATION has comes to babes - Recently babes stopped cutting their own chicken portions and now buy PRECUT portions - we have always paid around $90 for our family of 5 - but it’s official, BABES is NO LONGER worth the money - profit over family values and a good reputation. Diner BEWARE. Update: 07/09/2023 - was told at the beginning of Hokey Pokey she had to dance before waiting on us (this is not right) -Had to ask for straws even though we clearly had kids and were never asked if our drinks needed refills -had to ask for side refills. The very first set of sides wasn’t even enough for our family of four to each get them. -demeanor of server was just off putting in general from the get go -also, putting a dedicated LEO spot upfront that takes away from handicap parking is ridiculous And I don’t appreciate the huffiness of inconvenience I’m given when I ask for the veteran discount. Previous visits: VETERANS/DV’s BEWARE: On 4 separate occasions after our meal when paying we have asked for their veteran discount. They ALWAYS act like it’s an inconvenience (don’t offer if your going to train your staff to act this way) - It’s been different managers too so clearly they all know. 5 star review reduced to 1 star (no reflection on their wait staff) SJ gave us the best service! So often despite how much taking one’s family out costs.. service is lacking; this time though was perfect - great job SJ! If you come to this babes location look him up if you want extraordinary service!

If you love Kale keep trucking. If you love country cooking this is the place. We have been customers since Babes opened in Roanoke. I remember having dinner one night when the manager came by to visit with us. While he was sitting with us talking he got a phone call that his wife was in labor! What a fun and beautiful moment. They treat their customers like family and the food is pretty darn good too.

Edit: Apparently not all Babes are as hospitable. Some no longer allow you to take your half eaten sides home in the baggies they hand you. Which is off because we have been going to Babes for 20 years and the wait staff always brings us lots of baggies. Including our last visit. We met a group of friends during the work day at NRH and one of our friends decided to use her containers from her lunch box to put her leftovers in and save the bags. She was leaving meanwhile the rest of us has barely gotten our food after waiting 45 minutes to be served. However because 1 out of our group was leaving and packed up her plate to leave we were told we were not allowed to have any more sides. I tried to reason with them and this snippy little chic (who wasn't even our waitress ) decided to takeover our table and became quite aggressive and downright rude, refusing to hear our logic. We paid the same amount of money as everyone else. Our first set of bowls had about 2 tablespoons worth of sides in each for 5 people. We didn't complain.

It took 48 minutes to be exact to just get drinks and biscuits during offpeak times with a total of 12 tables being occupied. We observed several wait staff personnel just sitting at a table folding up silverware in napkins and joking around. Definitely not very busy and not so busy that it should of take that long to be taken care of. Did we complain? Nope.

We sat for another 30 plus minutes waiting for the chicken and sides to arrive. All with empty drinks no biscuits. Since the 4 biscuits for 5 ppl didn't last very long. Still we didn't complain.

When our friend was then STILL hungry and out of time for lunch had to leave without being able to eat her meal. Ofc she packed it up. So we let her take what she wanted from the food they finally brought us and asked for more sides. That's when we were all told no. That they would not bring us any more sides because our friend left and once someone packs up leftovers they are not allowed to serve anyone else.

Ok. Are you guys going out of business are that hard up financially you can't afford some logic and common sense? Obviously we HAD just been served and we made it very clear we were not leaving or even asking for Togo stuff we were all hungry...still after being there for almost 1.5 hours just patiently waiting to be served.?

THIS is not the family owned and family friendly place we have grown fond of. So whatever the issue is here. I hope it's resolved but our family will not be going back to this location. It's a shame because this has been our family's go to meeting lunch spot after attending church for 20 years.

We spent almost $150 there that day for our table. 2 of our guests were from out of town and it was their first visit. A shame it didn't live up to the friendly atmosphere we told them about. We were offered 2 makeup meal coupons or whatever. We tossed them. We have zero desire to revisit this location. That doesn't quite cut it. We paid for our meals and our guests (4 meals) but we're refused service for zero reason. Spent way too much time waiting. We had to go to a different restaurant when we left there to have dinner because we were all still hungry.

On an up note we found a great new spot to eat family meals at ,just down the road at blue mound cafe. Friendly, fast, good food and great service. I'll leave our 5 star review on their...

REVIEW: Babe's Chicken

6700 NE Loop 820, North Richland Hills, TX 76180

This establishment serves food like Little House on the Prairie... FAMILY STYLE. So if more than one, it will be like, "Can you please pass the taters???" 😆

First & foremost, love the location and plenty of parking.

Now onto the FOOD: (Mostly Everything Made to Oder)

Biscuits (9): These babies were warm and super soft...

So here we go:

The Skin was crunchy and tasty.

Now the Sides:

Corn (8): They were warm and sweet, very tasty.

Very disappointing to go curbside experience tonight. The to go staff needs to be taken aside and have updated training at this location as I have had several curbside experiences where they have messed up my order at NRH. I order from the Roanoke location just as often and do not have the same issue my orders, so at the end of the day it is not an error in how I am ordering.

It would be nice if they train their staff on what à la carte individual items mean so I do not get charged for a whole extra meal when I added an a la carte item to a meal. It would be nice if they train staff on repeating the order back to customers to clarify orders and provide a total to customers before they charge the card.

Tonight, I had to do the servers job by requesting her to repeat and confirm the order. After it was repeated, I confirmed for the 3rd time she had it as an a la carte item where she conferred that it was. Moving forward, I requested to pay by phone so she asked for my card before providing a total. I went forward with the credit card, I was asked to tip and instructed I wanted to tip a percentage (15%). I then asked if she could give me the total because she still had not provided a total. She gave me the total, which threw me back because she had added two extra meals on the bill, but she had already processed payment as well. I had to inform her she charged me wrong and walk through the order again. She said she would have the manager fix the order and apply a credit. I told her I would need the receipt on arrival with the order, so I could review.

After arrival we checked in and food immediately came out, so not sure how long it had been ready but we were a few minutes early based on arrival time she told us. She showed me a credit card receipt with a credit for one meal, but no corrected itemized receipt. I told her I wanted the itemized receipt, so she went in to get that said receipt and almost 10 minutes later I had to call into the restaurant with frustration because my food was getting cold and soggy. At this point I told them I was leaving and asked them to have the manager retain the receipt and I would call back to have them email the copy.
