Fitz Willy's really humiliated my fiancee Seth tonight. He wasn't feeling well and was very dizzy. We wanted to have dinner together tonight. When we got to the restaurant he was too nauseous to eat. I ordered food and Seth said he needed to rest his head so he rested it on the table and was looking out the front window. The manager on duty Beth approached the table while I was eating and said "I'm sorry but I can't have your friend sleeping here." I was blindsided by that statement since I was in the middle of eating. Seth raised his head and said "Why is this an issue? He's a paying a customer (referencing myself). The manager then said "OK you know what? You need to leave." Seth got up to leave and a man in a Fitz Willy's T-Shirt followed him outside. I was absoutely shocked by this response from the manager. Seth did not yell or swear at her, he was just insistant to ask why there was an issue with him resting his head. I had to stay behind to attempt to pay the bill (the manager said I did not owe anything) I spoke to the manager Beth and explained that she humiliated Seth and that she did not handle the situation correctly; taking the situation from a 1 to a 10 simply because she did not like his tone of voice. I explained that my family and I have been going to Fitz Willy's for over 20 years and that we have never experienced such a thing. I explained that Seth was very sick earlier in the day and that we had plans go to dinner but he was still too sick to eat. The manager Beth then asked me "Don't you think maybe you shouldn't have taken him out then?" - again, the wrong response from the manager in this situation. Beth stated that "its midnight, we can't have someone sleeping on the table near the front window, a police officer could think we are over-serving, we had a complaint." We never ordered any alcohol at the restaurant, I have never encountered such a situation like this before. I have witnessed scenarios in the past at Fitz Willy's where families have had their children sleeping or resting at the tables and there was never an issue. Beth said "it wouldn't have been as much of an issue if you were sitting at the back but you were right there in the front window." So basically, Seth was feeling sick, he was resting his head while I was eating and was asked to leave when he inquired what the problem was after Beth approached us. After I explained the situation to her she said "you didn't tell me he wasn't feeling well" I said "I was blindsided by your comment to us and I was shocked you were asking him to leave simply because he asked you what the problem was." Seth was humiliated and the manager's response was completely uncalled for. We have spent thousands of dollars at this restaurant over the past 20 years and my family and I will never return to this...
Read moreI have been to this establishment many times over the past 6 years. I have had no issue until my last visit this weekend. I had made reservations for a party of 6 for 11:30am - we ended up being a party of 5. We were seated at the back of the restaurant where it was exceptionally cold and uninviting. The place was not crowded and we were seated at a table for 8. Another party came in after us and were given much better accommodations. I made the observation to one of the wait staff who conveyed my annoyance to the manager, Ryan. After we paid the bill said manager then came across to discuss our issue...note after we paid the bill. He said something that stood out to me which made me think we were put there because we were a racially mixed group...he said we were seated without judgement...thought never crossed my mind until he said it. Ryan said the next time we were there if we did not like our seating "we could throw him under the bus and say that Ryan said that we could be moved." He then laughed and said "but you really cannot throw me under the bus I am the manager". His explanation of why we were put there had no merit. He had known once the wait staff told him about our discomfort for a while, but chose not to do anything about it at all. I usually like going there but Ryan soured the experience for me. I did feel that were seated in back of the restaurant due to...
Read moreThe food here is absolutely incredible! It's a clean restaurant, with a historical tinge to it's appearance. The staff was attentive to everyone at all times. I didn't see one dissatisfied diner. I ordered the Steak tips with wild mushrooms and rice pilaf. The steak was cooked exactly as I wanted. The wild mushrooms were pan seared in some kind of wine. Point being, they were some of the best tasting mushrooms I've ever had in my entire life.
According to their menu, they locally source wild mushrooms and asparagus, so those veggies are fresh as can be.
The only caveat with this restaurant is the parking. To get there, you'll need to go around the back of the restaurant (row of buildings on the main street), take a right at the first light after passing Fitzwillys, then take your first right into a kind of alleyway. Drive up a little bit and you'll see paid parking options. I dined there Sunday, so the parking lot was free. Parking lot was a bit filled up. So if you go any other day than Sunday, you'll have to pay for parking via their license plate kiosk. If you go on Friday night or Saturday, you may not find parking available. It gets really busy in that downtown square area.
Other than that, it's a good location, within walking distance to other shops near by if you want to...
