Spoleto — Restaurant in Northampton

well it's hard to review a place. You really have to eat a lot of food in any one restaurant. which I don't like to do when everything is so disappointing. Spoleto was disappointing. The food was not horrible. just meh. I had the crazy Alfredo pasta and the sausage was more like hamburger. pretty small for the $22 price. not horrible but certainly not bursting with flavor. My wife's margarita pizza was pretty good, although the crust seemed to be flatbread that was pre-made. not a bubbly crusty Neapolitan crust one would expect from a good Italian restaurant. atmosphere? it's kind of dingy inside. certainly dark and I guess a lot of people like that which is fine. The outside dining seemed much more appealing well the service. The waitress was kind of not exactly surly but not really at all pleasant. just kind of: what do you want? One thing bothered us and it may have been her fault or may not have been her fault. we asked if we could get the kids chicken parm without cheese or tomato sauce on top. she came back 7 minutes later with an enormous chicken cutlet with no cheese or tomato sauce. she didn't confirm at all that that's what we wanted. if it was possible. we wanted the pasta that also came with the cutlet and she said she could get that, and she did. but the bill charged us $16 instead of the $10 kid portion. she said her manager separated the charges because the chicken cutlet was an adult portion. again, they just brought it to us without us ordering it, didn't inform us that that's what would happen. And then charged us way more than the kid portion would cost. when we complained, they didn't change it. again, this restaurant isn't horrible. kind of dingy. indifferent service. Small portions for the money. food just kind of okayish. so although the review would be more accurate, if I ordered more stuff, we will not be...

My husband and I ate here yesterday. When we walked up, there was a sign on the door that said the hostess stand was outside and to see the hostess for seating. So, we turned around and went to the outdoor area. After wandering around with another party, we determined that there was no hostess stand outside. Upon entering, there were now several parties ahead of us, but we were still seated rather quickly.

The ambiance was great - dim lighting, not top loud, tables well spaced apart. When we were seated, there was no one in front or behind us. In the next 5-10 mins, those tables were filled. We watched those tables who got seated after us get water, and drinks. After 15-20 minutes I flagged down a random waitress and let her know that we had been here for over 15 minutes with no one coming by. She looked mortified and ended up being our waitress even though it clearly wasn't her section. Abby was so nice, friendly, and genuinely fun to talk to. She made the whole experience much better and the service was very fast from here on out.

Travellers, we made reservations here for a family celebration and it was a huge mistake. No one came to seat us when we went and asked for help the Maitre d pointed us to a table and we sat down and never saw a server again. They came to a close by table after 20 minutes but the server ignored us. She never came back with the other tables items either. The restaurant was almost completely empty. No customers. They told other folks there was a 45 minute wait for a table in an empty restaurant. When we asked they said they were short handed and the waitress walked off and never came back. This was embarrassing and uncomfortable and almost ruined our evening. After 40 minutes we went to another restaurant, fittzwillys, where we got served immediately in a friendly way and it was great. We used to come to spoletos all the time but this was the last time. The service was downright rude from the entire staff. It was like they didn’t want our business. So our advice to you is go somewhere else because even the reservation didn’t get us service.
