Northfield Diner — Restaurant in Northfield

Always drive by this place and never see any cars. Always wondered how that could be. Good location.. It's a diner. There must be a reason. Finally decided to go in and can honestly say there is no good reason this diner doesn't have more business. It is a perfectly fine diner to eat. I had figured that the lack of customers probably meant it was a laundering job. Maybe the mafia. Who knows? Seems that's not the case. The food was very good. My wife had the French toast which was some of the best I have ever tried. I took a weird picture of my corned beef sandwich as you can see (attached). Waitress was nice. We were 1 of 2 guests. In the entire building. but they were ready. The wait for the food was very brief. It was hot and fresh. I gave a perhaps 'bit unfair' 4 for the food because as far as diners go, it was that. I honestly didn't think there was really even going to be a menu. Just enough on the outside to cover up the real purpose of the operation. No. The atmosphere is easily a 5 because it was very diner-like, clean and spacious. And it was like they opened just for us. If you look at all the 1 star reviews you will see a commonality. I sat down and was quickly given a menu. Good sign. However, when asked what I wanted, I mentioned a latte. The response I received was a “no, I’m not good at that”. I thought to myself “ok no big deal” but was obviously surprised by the delivery. Worse yet, there was no follow up to see if I wanted something else. The waitress simply stormed off. I’m fairly patient so I let that go as well. About 25 minutes goes by and she stops by the table to confirm my order from the notebook, meaning it had not been submitted yet. I took that time to ask for a Diet Coke because I had not once been asked what I wanted to drink. About 15 minutes goes by and no Diet Coke. By this time I’ve been at the table for around 50 minutes and haven’t had a food or drink item anywhere near me. She sees me walking toward the door and says “hey buddy!”. I turn around to her with an inquisitive facial expression obviously wondering what’s going on. I tell her I have to go at which time she expresses frustration. I’m normally not the guy to leave a review, especially a bad one but this was insane....

Was wondering if it was even open on a Tuesday morning 10am only a few car in the lot during the peek summer tourist time but only our group. Clean almost felt like I was at a funeral home old VFW hall not a diner in 2024 except for when the check came after a below par set of over easy egg cooked and hard one over easy scrapple that's wasn't fresh .the diet Coke was good though. I didn't hear any comments positive or negative from the other people in my party.some dishes looked ok other's like a home cook or someone's mom was filling in because they can bearly keep the lights one because of a few factors in my opinion.2, egg and 2thin slices of store bought week old scrapple home fries and 2 sodas 14.99$ I see why the lot is empty.trim down the menu offer 6 or 7 really good breakfast items cut food costs or bring in someone who knows how to run a lean restaurant or shut down it cost you more to serve us yhen yo made to open up ....
