The first time I ever had a torta ahogada was in Irapuato, Mx, and I've been on the search for one similar ever since. This place hits it on the mark. The torta ahogada I had was with carnitas, which is how I had it in Mexico, and it was so delicious! The torta is filled with freshly chopped carnitas and topped with cabbage and thinly sliced onions; then the magic ahogada sauce. The savory red sauce is tame with heat, but so flavorful! Then they give you a red, plastic container with a spicy salsa to add on top. At first glance, it is a bit overwhelming; do you pick it up? Do you use a fork and knife? Just go it! My wife and I dove right in its magnificent, messy glory. Salsa running down your hands, sweat beginning to trickle down your face, and all you can do is smile. I recommend getting the combination plate, which includes the torta but also a taco Dorado underneath; it added such a great crunch to the entire dish. A pro move is to ask for some extra cabbage on the side and add it as you go; it provides a next level freshness and crunch that enhances the entire dish. The staff was very nice and welcoming and made everything just absolutely great. The food can always be delicious, but it makes a difference when the staff is kind; it makes the food taste better. They also serve tacos de canasta, tostadas, carne en su jugo, menudo, tacos dorados, and juices. I got one combination torta plate, one regular torta, 2 tacos de canasta, and 1 large bottled soda, and I paid about $36. If you are around the area, I recommend trying this place out, and I know you won't be disappointed. And do yourself a favor by getting a Medio litro glass coke to...

The ambiance was warm and inviting, with a modern yet cozy decor that made me feel right at home. The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive, ensuring that every aspect of the meal was perfect.
The menu offered a diverse selection of dishes, each more tempting than the last. I started with the torta ahogada, which was a delightful blend of flavors and textures. For the main course, I opted for the carne en su jugo, and it was absolutely delicious. The ingredients were fresh and expertly prepared, resulting in a dish that was both flavorful and satisfying.
Overall, la chiva tapatia, exceeded all my expectations. The combination of excellent food, top-notch service, and a welcoming atmosphere makes it a must-visit for anyone in the area. I can't wait to go back and try more of their...
Read moreCame to have dinner here with my family for the first time, as we came in through the back door the first thing we smelled was the restroom it was a bit unpleasant. I noticed the restaurant was a bit rundown. Floors and walls were dirty, it almost made me second guess if we should stay, however we decided to give it a try and the food was actually pretty good for the most part. My only complaint as far as the food goes is that the beans in the tacos de canasta were really dry. Service was...
