UPDATE: Under new management!!!…

Was told new dishes will be coming soon (not sure I will try as the taste of the food has changed drastically from my experience).

New A family owned indian restaurant I’ve grown to love. Recommended by a co-worker, Saffron Indian Cuisine Restaurant has become one of my ā€œguilty pleasuresā€ on my way home from work. Located on a main strip in Norwalk, it is one of thee best Indian Restaurants I’ve eaten at in Connecticut and would recommend it anyone open to having a delicious and tasty meal. They’ve distinguished themselves apart from the rest through their commitment to quality, freshness for each handcrafted dish. Their menu includes Chicken Tikka Masala and its correspondent Butter Chicken where I HUGELY recommend getting the Bhatura (fried pita bread) along with it or any of their entree’s (you’ll thank me later šŸ˜‰). There’s various Biryani’s (aromatic rice dishes) with your choice of protein (chicken, lamb, shrimp, etc.). They prepare various naans (breads), vegetarian dishes, and dessert. What kept me returning to Saffron is their utmost consistency in the flavor and their spice levels where I recommend if you never had Indian food before-start off with their level 3. I personally do level 7-just enough of a kick, if you like spice (y)-level 8 and up will offer you that bang. Don’t let anyone scare you about Indian food being too spicy, they will definitely change your perspective and tastebuds. Saffron’s wide array of dishes includes something for everyone and their own liking which welcomes you to enjoy their crafts from the kitchen. It’s...

I used to love this place—it was my absolute go-to for Indian takeout. The flavors were rich, the portion sizes generous, and the menu had some standout favorites I couldn’t get anywhere else.

But recently, everything’s changed.

Some good: the new lunch menu is a fantastic deal, and the new late night offerings on Friday and Saturdays are delicious - I wish they would offer them every day.

But chicken madras recipe was one of the best I’ve had—bold, spicy, full of depth—and now it’s completely different. The texture is thinner, the flavor profile is flatter, and it just doesn’t have the same magic.

Even worse, two of my all-time favorite dishes—the red bean curry and the potato curry—are just gone from the menu. These were staples I always looked forward to, and it’s hard to understand why they’d be removed when they added so much variety and vegetarian balance.

And finally, the rice. The portions are now half the size they used to be, and it genuinely affects the meal experience. A curry without enough rice feels incomplete—and honestly, a little stingy.

I don’t say this lightly, but these changes have made it hard to stay loyal to a place I used to recommend constantly. I sincerely hope the owners reconsider. The original recipes and generous portions were what made this place special. Right now, it just feels like something...

By far, the worst Indian meal I have every had.

It was delivered by Saffron Restaurant though I paid the fee to GrubHub fo the delivery -- very confusing.

After the first taste of their chicken byriani I was worried--it had an off-taste to it -- and the chicken, which is normally large pieces of dark meat, were small, unflavored chunks. It was tough and tasted like it'd been held over a long time or had been cooked and frozen.

The malai kofta had -- literally -- no flavor at all. It looked great, but no flavor -- it was like eating flour. I had another person try it out and they said the same. Such a waste.

But how can you wrong with Chicken Tikka Masala? Well, you can, and they did. That chicken was exactly the same as in the biryani -- it was not put in a Tandoori oven as there was no beautiful orange/red color to the outside of it and no char. The Masala sauce tasted like margarine -- it's hard to describe. Just a very sad, unpleasant dish.

The Cheese Nan was nice and warm, but again, no cheese inside.

The only thing that was good was the raita.

That was a difficult $61 loss. I don't care about the money if the food is what is should be. Their food is not.

And they offer no email or comment area on their website -- I would've given them an opportunity to correct this dinner but I am not going to tie up their...

Pinky, the waitress, was really kind, welcoming, and helpful. Her recommendations for customizing the spice levels of each of the dishes we ordered were greatly appreciated and turned out just right for all members of our party. She was patient in answering our questions about the menu and explaining what the different dishes were. The food came out quickly and smelled amazing. The naan and paratha were some of the best that we've had. Portions are fair for the price, and the ratio of meat to sauce was generous. If we were to go back, we'd recommend asking to reduce the amount of salt in the dishes as some were too salty.

Wife and husband owners Pinky and Anoop are the most hard working and charming restaurant owners in Fairfield County. Using many family recipes, they consistently create authentic and masterful Indian cuisine at Saffron. Their unique all-you-can-eat lunch buffet is an experience not to miss, featuring complimentary tandoori chicken and naan. If it were possible to surpass the excellent quality of their food, their genuine commitment to every customer certainly would. The Palak Paneer, Mango Shake, and Rice Pudding are some of my favorite treats.
