This was our first visit to a DQ grill and chill where we have ordered food. The menu is pretty basic but the food is good. My wife had chicken tenders, our daughter gobbled up her hot dog, and I got the bbq bacon ranch burger (a seasonal special). I got cheese curds instead of fries. They were good but the name is a little misleading as they aren't what most people would consider cheese curds, they were just fried mozzarella nuggets, and came with a side of marinara, but they tasted fine for a mozzarella stick. My daughter got a soft serve cone with her kids meal, my wife tried the Oreo brookie (brownie cookie combo) blizzard and I tried the puppy chow blizzard. Again, my wife and I enjoyed our blizzards (despite the fact they were not served upside-down as DQ advertises) and our daughter had no problems polishing off her cone. I also got two small malts, which leads us into the first of a couple issues that caused the 2 star rating. The staff was friendly enough when ordering. But after we ordered our desserts (which we ordered after we finished eating our meals) I noticed an issue with the price. I had a coupon for 2 small malts or milkshakes for $3 through the DQ app, which you can scan in store. The cashier did scan the coupon and it did show that it scanned on their screen but the discount was not applied. When I mentioned this to the cashier she asked another employee what to do. That employee said the order would have to be voided and rung in again to fix the issue. That would have been all well and good except supposedly no one there could do a void on the register, which seems a little strange to me. They said I would have to call the restaurant the next day to get this issue fixed. Now if I were local to the store I would have just gone back the next day with my receipt in hand, but we were traveling and we're nearly two hours from home, so that wasn't an option. So I guess I'll just take the hit and write off the extra $5 I had to pay without the coupon and in the future order items on a coupon through the app even if I'm there in person. But there was one more BIG issue I noticed. As an employee was making my daughter's cone, I saw that she was not wearing gloves. Now had she only touched the paper on the cone I could look past this but her hand was touching the cone itself (I made sure my daughter didn't eat the cone). I then noticed no other employees wearing gloves either. The only employee I can't confirm this with was the grill cook who was out of sight, so for the sake of my sanity I will just tell myself that the grill cook must have been wearing gloves. This fact makes me glad that I will likely never be in the area again to eat here though. But as a culinarian, it sends shivers down my spine thinking about food service employees handling ready to eat food without gloves. At least the kitchen didn't look to be too dirty, but again, I'm only looking from across the counter and I know firsthand that looks can sometimes be deceiving, and employees not wearing gloves while handling food is a big red flag that there are likely other sanitation issues that customers can't see. Now who knows, maybe it was because it was a Sunday and there was no manager to ensure sanitation rules were being enforced (which would also explain the not being able to void the order) but if I'm ever in the area again I definitely won't return for another visit. Maybe try going on a weekday and you'll have a better experience than I had, but it's not someone I intend to find...
Read moreI'm giving this DQ 3 stars because I have never in my life been talked to the way the two young ladies taking our order were speaking to me and my husband. We have 4 children two being toddlers and right away they made a rude remark about us coming in. So after getting everyone's order I sent them to sit down so I could place the order and the girl inputting our orders was obviously training but the young lady that was training her was pissed because we had a lot to order and she had to keep coming back to help out, and then just kept giving me snotty looks, huffing under her breath and would ask a question but just in a nasty way without even making eye contact. Then when my order was placed I waited by to get the drinks and wait for the food, when the food was ready she walks out from behind the counter so I walked over to take it she looked at me said nothing and walked right passed me and dropped the tray on our table....thankfully we don't live in CT but we won't be returning to...
Read moreWe had a loss in our family and I wanted to cheer my sister up with a treat. The woman on the headset was not the friendliest and kept repeating to us that we would get charged extra for substitutions. For example, my sister wanted a peanut buster parfait with NO FUDGE, sub peanut butter. She frankly let us know that we would be charged as if we were adding peanut butter. I have been to dairy queens all over the country and never heard of not being able to swap something that simple. An up charge for a product that is more expensive is reasonable, but to completely charge for an added item when one is not being received is excess. Had she handled it kindly, we may have felt differently. In customer service you only get one chance to impact the guest and you never know what they're going through. We were treated as a nuisance when we simply wanted to have a moment of ease amidst...
