Irene's Family Restaurant — Restaurant in Norwich

The family running this restaurant is truly amazing. As a child, my father would always take us here and to the "sister" restaurant in Moodus, CT. The owners/staff became an extended family for us and were always kind and welcoming to everyone. I left the state for 8 years for my career, but luckily moved back this year with my family. I had Irene's cater a cross country team dinner for approx. 40-50 students and their families. The service when I placed the order was excellent. The day of the event the order was delivered on time and the staff who delivered it went above and beyond her duties to help me get everything inside. It was pouring outside when the food was delivered (and super cold), but she had a wonderful attitude and while I personally felt the need to rush to get everything out of the vehicle, she reminded me to take my time and helped me so graciously. The food was hot when it arrived and tasted amazing! The students and their families (some already fans of Irene's) were either excited that I had the event catered by them because they said the food is always so good or took a bite of the various pastas for the first time and raved about how good it tasted. Irene's from start to finish customer service was outstanding. From our first conversation on the phone taking my catering order they were friendly and patient with me. I called a second time to make changes to my catering order and they were very understanding and accommodating. On Wednesday Oct 4th the food was delivered. I was so overwhelmed and busy with setting up for the business event that I went totally blank on what I ordered. Shout out to Hunter who delivered the food. Hunter was so extremely friendly and understanding he went over the order with me. Hunter went ABOVE and BEYOND his duties he help me put the food pans in the chaffing trays. Irene's catering food we were not disappointed 😋 it was on point and it was a hit at this business event. Compliments to the chef. To the owners of this establishment you should be very proud of your staff that provided such outstanding service. I look forward to working with you in the near future. Don't order out during their dinner rush.I called ahead to order a grinder. I get what I can only assume is a flustered new employee on the phone. I order my small tuna grinder with some lettance and salt/pepper, and ask to be sure that there will be no tomatoes on it. My doctor had forbidden tomatos because the acididy wrecks havoc on my digestive system. I'm told there will be no tomatoes on it, and the wait's about 15-20 minutes till it's ready.

I end up showing up about 18 minutes after my order was made, get told that it's still being finished but they cash me out early. I end up waiting another 15 minutes after that for my sandwich, time that cuts into my lunch. But I understand, it's the dinner rush, I should have known. However what I don't understand is why I had tomatoes on the grinder. And I ended up wasteing more time picking them off before having to inhale the food Inorder to get back to work.
