My boyfriend and I made Rex our literal first stop on our first trip to Chicago. Took an Uber from the airport, luggage and all, because we had to know what the hype was about! Very glad we decided to do so. The family who runs the place is very friendly. I had read that the momma will hand out samples while you wait to order; I thought to myself there is no way she does this. If so, that would be great. However, who really has that level of hospitality nowadays? Especially after the past two years and knowing personally as someone who works in the food and beverage industry just how difficult things have been and continue to be. This industry is a labor of love; if you disagree you are spending too much time at chains and not enough time supporting local businesses. I am always grateful to support people who work hard every day to do what they love and to share it with others. I felt that here. The son spoke with us for a while and was genuine and kind. We shared some good belly laughs. He thanked us and asked to take our picture. It’s beautiful to me that even after being featured on tv, he was still amazed and seemingly honored that people literally get right off the plane and make it a point to support the business. Anyway, to the food, we got pasta & fazul soup, a side of hot giardiniera, a meatball sub (his), and a grilled chicken caprese panini (mine). I also got an extra side of the pesto Mayo, because that stuff was amazing. The goal was for us to share these items. I ended up eating most of the soup, and I did not really want to share my panini as it was delicious. Thank you for your hospitality as you were our first stop of the trip! I will send any I can your way, and I wish the best for you and yours

As soon as I stepped inside this little corner deli I realized that this was a real deal Italian joint. Paninis, subs, pastas, fresh baked cookies, spumoni. Spumoni! I haven't had this in forever. Everyone is friendly and the prices are great for the quality of food. And the quality is five stars all the way. I went with the Guy Fieri sausage sub. Real Italian sausage, marinated peppers, Italian roll. Really good. Second visit: I came back with my fiance so she could sample the great food too. My Italian Sub was really good. Her stuffed pepper was divine, maybe the best I've ever tasted. It came with generous portions of a delicious focaccia bread. She ended up getting two meals out of it all. We both give it five stars.

Ordered a few calzones (pepperoni and sausage) and they were ok. The bread-to-filling ratio was more bread-heavy than actual sauce, cheese, and meat. The flavor was good, despite the lack of filling inside. They were honestly a bit of a slight disappointment, as I was expecting better after seeing all of the positive reviews and publicity. Gonna have to give their other menu items a try and hope for a more fulfilling experience. The service was good and the interior was clean and tidy and sported some neat, quaint Old World Italian decorations. There are plenty of tables and seating to go around, both inside and outside Rex. Overall - good service, cool ambiance, but the calzones were a swing and a miss. Cheers.

Everything I've had at Rex is delicious, carefully and beautifully made, with that authentic and correct balance of flavors that shows respect for tradition, these are the flavors of home -- perfected! My personal favorite is their Eggplant Sandwich, a sandwich that so many places get wrong. Rex understands what makes a great Eggplant Sammy -- theirs is one of the top versions of this classic Southern Italian sandwich that I've ever had in my life. Calzones are fabulous, their sausage is homemade and amazing, subs and salads are generous, delicious and fresh! Try their cookies, too - so good with an espresso! A really great neighborhood gem - plus delivery during some hours?! What's not to love?! I'd give Rex 6 stars if I...

My son took me there for My birthday, we went there January 30, 2024,

We went there 2 hours before it was going to close.

We were going to sit there and eat but we got the impression that we needed to get the heck out of there so they can start closing up

My son got me Cheese lasagna and he got eggplant parmesan and we got tiramisu for dessert.

The lady was very rude who rung us up

When we got home to eat the food it was very cold, The the food was very bland had no flavor and the raised their price on the food.

My cheese Lasagna cost $12.99 it wasn't worth it there are other Italian restaurants in the neighborhood that are much better and cheaper I won't go back there anymore

In my opinion they went...
