I am always on the lookout for new Indian restaurants, so I decided to try Hyderabad House for a late lunch. When we entered, my wife and I were very impressed. The owners have invested a lot of money in designing this place and it reminded me of an upscale Indian restaurant in either New York or Chicago. Definitely a first in the metro Detroit area.
The service started pretty well, the server was friendly and suggested a few different options. We ordered a Chicken Manchow soup and Fish Apollo for starters. The soup was average but the Fish Apollo was good, could have been crispier.
For the main course, I ordered a wada + mutton curry. I love unique combos and was salivating at the thought of eating this mouthwatering concoction. What captured my attention was that the menu mentioned 3 types of chutney and sambar as part of the combo. When the food came, there was no sign of chutneys or sambar. I politely asked the server about it and was told that since I had ordered wada + mutton curry, it didnt come with any chutneys. It took me some time and I lost my patience in trying to explain to the server that this was part of the order from their restaurant menu. Not surprisingly, the server had not read the menu, which to me is an unforgivable thing. Especially when you apply fine dining prices and its your one job.
Anyways, after much discussion, he brought out the chutneys but not the sambar. Again I had to ask for it and again I was told that this was not part of the item. When it’s clearly mentioned on the menu in black and white.
I got my sambar, but it ruined my experience. I can totally understand if someone makes a mistake but then steps in and corrects it. We are all human. What is not acceptable to me as a paying customer is when you make me feel like you are doing me a favor, especially after you have screwed up my order and experience.
My wife got the Nawabi mutton biryani which was very good. My wada with mutton curry was average.
After that, a different server showed up to give me the bill while my current server stood in the corner, trying to ignore me by not making eye contact. Thankfully the new server was really courteous and went out of the way, and even apologized for the messup.
All in all, the experience was sub-standard, while the food was above average. This place has the potential to be a great fine dine restaurant in metro Detroit but ONLY if they fix the service quality. I’ll probably not be coming back soon, at least until I hear...
Read moreI came here in the evening around 5:30 for some snacks and tea, but once seated, we could not see the tea/snack options on the menu and we were told café items could be ordered from the front(they have a seperate section in the front for cakes and snacks, which is convenient if you are just picking getting things). Since it’s all one place, it would really help if the café menu was available at the tables too.
Now, the highlights of this place-the interiors. Absolutely beautiful, one of the best I’ve seen for an Indian restaurant in Michigan. The place inside is huge and can accommodate a lot of people. They have fresh flowers on all the tables. Parking is easy, and there’s even outdoor seating for summer.
Next coming to the food. Snack options were very limited (just samosa, punugulu, chicken pakoda). I am giving them the benefit of doubt because it is a weekday and they are a new place so they might not have a lot of snack options yet. We decided for an early dinner instead. We ordered the veg fried rice and veg manchurian combo for $21, plus veg noodles for $15. The noodles tasted nice but wasn’t hot, the fried rice was mid, and the manchurian was horrible!! It was overly tangy, not like manchurian at all. I dont know which was worse, the balls or the manchurian sauce. The combo portion also felt small. Yes, I know a combo usually comes with lesser quantity but a combo is $21 whereas it would have costed me $29 for full portion of them, so the value didn’t feel right. I might give them another try during a weekend IF the service and food quality picks up in a few weeks.
Here’s the bottom line: the interiors are amazing, but the food is expensive amd the taste does not justify the price or quality. If they focus on improving the food and rethinking prices, this place could do really well. Because no matter how stunning the interiors are, at the end of the day it’s the food that keeps customers coming back,...
Read moreUpdate: Today we got takeaway for two biriyani and one chicken appetizer. Along with mango lassi and Rasmalai cake. Food was wonderful and the service was top notch😉 Nawabi Hyderabad restaurant was recommended to us by few friends and neighbors. Also we found several online posts about the new restaurant in Novi. They all were raving about this place. The location is prime, only thing I don’t like too close to three small pre existing restaurants are within 0.5 miles. Finally we had the chance to visit this place today, pairing was little challenging if you want super close. But they have huge shared parking lot so it shouldn’t be an issue. Entering the restaurant, we were greeted by the young lady, smiled and provide us table, menu and water bottle. There was a rush, but polite lady came to take our order with a POS terminal system. We ordered few entrees and an appetizer. The spice and taste was good. The chicken started had no salad/bread comes with it so we had to order a plain Naan. Brittani comes with Raita and some sauce. Which was good. Meat seems fresh especially chicken dub biriyani taste real good. My only issue too much rice but less portion of meat compared to price. You don’t give too much rice that would be eventually wasted. Negative: no glass or ice was provided with water No drinks glass nor ice was provided with mango lassi. Only plastic bottle was served. Naan bread don’t have butter neither we were asked.
We tried Goat Dum Biriyani Chicken Dum Biriyani Chcinen Masakali Mango pastry Rasmalai Pastry KitKat Pastry Mango Lassi Another drinks (forgot the name)
Suggestion to Management: change the policy of 18% gratuity as our deshi people would put lot of bad review for that and they won’t return. Keep up great work and people should happily tip you. Overall I’m impressed by the quality of service food and atmosphere was absolutely stunning. A game changer for Indian restaurant...
