Sake Sushi & Poke — Restaurant in Nutley

I very rarely review restaurants unless they blow me away. This one blew me away. I was surprised by the prices, around $9-$14 depending on the roll you get, and it's a HUGE roll!!! Very generous portions.

I got the chicken tempura roll and the mango avocado roll as dessert. The chicken tempura was very crispy, and a fantadtic portion of chicken to avocado, cucumber and rice. The mango avocado was especially good. Some of the freshest, most flavorful mango I've had, and it's perfectly balanced by the avocado.

Among the best Pokebowls I've had in NJ. It also feels more genuinely healthy with fresh ingredients and a good serving of meat. It looks like it's a small family business with a mom, dad and son running things. The mom was very sweet and gave us tofu miso soup while we waited for our Pokebowls.

I'll definitely return to try their sushi and other options.

Update- Poke bowls still hit the spot. The new Beef Bulgogi bowl is absolutely fire. Just might be my new favorite bowl. Sushi is really good as well especially the Spicy Salmon and Spicy Tuna...

I wasn’t into this. Place is clean and everything tastes fresh. Takeout was fast.

The downside was I didn’t care for the sushi. Got a California and a shrimp tempura roll. Both were oversized for some reason, the kind of roll you need 2 bites for or to cram a giant piece in your mouth. Makes it messy to eat.

Ratio of ingredients was also off for me. Filled up with avocado and cucumber, couldn’t event taste the main ingredient of each roll.

Don’t know why they choose to do these big messy rolls, but...
