Nutley Public Library — Attraction in Nutley

The library itself is great — there are plenty of toys and a good amount of space for kids to play and read. We try to come at least once a month. We used to visit more often, but unfortunately, the staff’s attitude has really made the experience less enjoyable. They often come across as rude or irritated, which makes the kids feel like they’re a burden just for being there. They also only allow one coloring sheet per child — not a huge deal, but it does feel unnecessarily stingy. There’s also no designated space for snacks, and even something as simple as Goldfish crackers will get you asked to leave, which feels a bit over the top for a children’s space. I went to the library to find out about the Summer reading programs. The lady upstairs greeted me, was kind explained the programs and gave my 3 kids goodie bags. We went downstairs to check out some books and the librarian said our card had expired. I am not a nutley resident but my kids go to a nutley school. She told me to bring their report cards for proof, I went back with them. The other librarian was rude and told me that wasn’t enough and needed proof my kids were enrolled for 2019-2020. School just finished so I didn’t have any prof of that. What bothers me the most was her attitude, the miscommunication and the fact that I went back twice with 3 kids for nothing. I went to the library on Thursday and there was a situation between people and the head of the library was so mean. She cursed at kids, and she doesn’t stop the problems. Then, there is the fat woman. Oh boy... where do we start. She started screaming at us to shut our mouth, even though other people were talking louder than us. Kids are only allowed on one section. Not allowed to more anywhere in the library. Not allowed to get up to talk to a friend for help on homework. She would scream SIT DOWN even though other people were up. She hates boys. I would not recommend your son to go to the library. She is not friendly. It feels like jail. I feel like I don’t have freedom in the library. I would NEVER reccomend this...
