This place is nestled deep in North Shore Country. I kind of just stumbled upon the place. I live an avid vegan life-style and I document the places that cater to it. This place is one of them. It boasts a wide selection of plant -based items that are not easy to find on the humble. I favored the selection of plant-based ice cream sandwiches, which came in 2-3 flavors. They also boast a wide array of herbs and supplements. Soaps and hygenic products are also available. There is a dry herb section in the far back. The establishment also offers some type of fresh hot coffee as you enter the store to the left. Manuka honey is the center piece to the store in my opinion. There are many varieties of this honey that are available. This is what makes this store exclusive for us living the vegan life-style. The store is accessible by the public bus, in the direction of Haleiwa. Not to be a debbie-downer but I have to express my feeling towards the clerks and customer service. The customer service is tricky. There is a tolerance, to say that maybe there is a particular interest in a certain type of culture versus another. The front clerk was more interactive with the customer in front of me. The conversation that was had was warming, then when I arrived for my check out, the interaction was monotone and void. I felt inferior. On my second visit I was totally ignored but yet I felt as if I wasn't being ignored if you catch my drift. There is also a ready to eat food section the the back. The place is pretty small so you might have to shimmy to get to the back. I didn't order anything, but I reviewed the menu. There seems to be some beneficial items available. Also, the front of the store and the back kind of operate as two different entities. EBT is accepted for food items in the front of the store. In the back of the store I don't think they know what SNAP benefits are...lol. Nevertheless, I am a person that values shops that carry the things that I use in my life-style. This is one of them. I would recommend a visit or two to stock up on things you can't get...
Read moreWe drove from Waikiki and went to 9th Island Vegan Restaurant.
A friend said you MUST try this place.. so we thought “do we really want to drive all this way for lunch”??
OMG we were so so glad we did!!!
9th island is in the historic surf town of Haleʻiwa and all I can say is WOW!
We were so impressed! The wonderful and very kind family owned fully vegan Restaurant is truly Magical. The owners are from Las Vegas.. so it has a cute Vegas Vibe. The owners are so friendly and welcoming and gave us great suggestions and we talked about why they became vegan.
The food is Truly amazing!!! Even if you aren’t a vegan or haven’t really enjoyed vegan foods in the past I know that you will love it. The husband wife and two kids aren’t chefs by trade but learned and perfected recipes that are just phenomenal.
It’s almost as if you can taste the Love and time that was put into your meal! The food is so creative and delicious. We had three things: buffalo cauliflower bites, Cheeseburger Pizza and the special Ioins made mushroom (that Looked just like meat) over a bed of freshly made fettuccini .
The cauliflower was a perfect balance of healthy and fried with a rich ranch dip and and crispy coating. You must try this here.
The cheeseburger pizza was made with beyond burger and had a lovely char on the meat pieces and again this sauce was a perfect balance of eating pizza and burger at the same time.. comforting and filling.
The special of the day was also very delicious and the lions Maine mushrooms Looked just like aged beef over pasta (my photos don’t do it justice). My friend who has never likes mushrooms tried it and liked it. I found it a little heavy ..but that’s just my personal preference..
Bottom line is that you must must try this place because it is so crazy delicious! It was Well worth the drive and the price for something that wasn’t just food..it was Magical...
Read moreVegan or not this is the best place to eat. In the week that my fiancé and I were out here, we came three times. The food is so amazing and so is the family that owns it is even more amazing! If you’re vegan and visiting, this is definitely the best vegan spot on the island. If you’re not vegan but want a great meal, this is the best restaurant on the island.
Their spinach artichoke dip is to die for. It’s so creamy and the bread that it’s paired with is amazing. The dyl pickle poppers are so crisp, my pickle hating fiancé even loved the taste of them. The jackfruit “krabby” cakes are mind blowing. The jackfruit melt is so perfect. It’s not your typical jackfruit that is soggy. Theirs has a crunch and a taste that gives chills. The lasagna rolls are so amazing. It’s something that you have to ask yourself: “how is this vegan?”. It comes with a side Caesar salad, and I just hope one day they sell this dressing in bottles, because I would buy gallons of it.
For breakfast, their banana oatmeal pancakes and the sweet potato wrap are great to start your morning with. It’s the perfect amount to eat and so energizing. For dessert they had a glazed pumpkin spice donut that was perfect to eat with the meals. Their cheesecake is also something perfect. The peanut butter bar is so delicious, it has a hard chocolate topping that is so great. The drinks are also so amazing!
The price for the amount you get is perfect. The family is so kind and chill. Definitely going to miss this place when I travel...
