If you’re looking for a more authentic and trendy Japanese-inspired café in Honolulu look no further. Ando is incredible and here’s why. The staff here are some of the kindest I’ve ever met. I literally saw a staff member bring in an extra table so guests didn’t have to juggle drinks (something she didn’t have to do, but went above and beyond for)! The vibe is super comfy, welcoming, minimalist, earthy, and relaxing. This place is perfect for catching up with friends or just unwinding solo and reading a book. They have inside and outside seating. The outside seating is plush and really comfortable - I could have fallen asleep on them! I got the iced hojicha tea with monk fruit and oh my goodness… heavenly. Light, balanced, nutty, refreshing, and so delicious. They also have pour overs, matchas, and baked goods that look incredible. They really don’t try and make things over complicated with extra flavors but have really high quality ingredients and let them speak for themselves. So if you’re looking to add cream, foams, purées, etc. to your matcha, you should look somewhere else. And I think that’s what makes this place special. Can’t wait to come back and try more! A must-visit cafe in Oahu! PSA: a head up that there’s no wifi here because they want you to connect with people face to face! so be mindful of that ◡̈

Somewhere between a Kyoto kissaten and a Nordic design lab, Ando Coffee is a monastic shrine to caffeine craftsmanship. Every detail—down to the handwritten bean labels and the glacial calm of the barista wielding a gooseneck kettle—feels like part of a ritual, not a routine. They treat coffee with the same solemnity as a tea ceremony: immaculate pour-over setups, high-end Japanese brewers that wouldn’t look out of place in a space lab, and single-origin beans that are more passport than product—Ethiopia, Colombia, Panama, all roasted with an obsessive eye for nuance. The espresso shot? Syrupy, tart, and unapologetically precise. The matcha latte? Smooth, grassy, and devoid of Instagram theatrics—this place is all substance. And if you’re lucky enough to be here on a weekend, do not—do not—leave without trying the basque cheesecake. The matcha version hums with earthy bitterness, while the hojicha sings like smoke in velvet. It’s a Japanese patisserie hidden inside a modernist coffee altar. Ando isn’t a place for rushing. It’s for slowing down, paying attention, and realizing that in the right hands, a simple drink can be a kind of quiet rebellion.

Ando Cafe perfectly blends Japanese modern elegance with a warm, inviting atmosphere. The staff are incredibly friendly and knowledgeable, making every visit a pleasure. I tried the matcha latte, single origin latte, and matcha Basque cheesecake on two separate occasions. Though I can be indecisive when trying new things, the staff patiently guided me and answered all my questions.

Their matcha, directly sourced from Japan, is exceptionally rich, authentic, and wonderfully fresh. The coffee is expertly brewed with a focus on quality and features a rotating selection of beans. The small shop and serene garden patio create a peaceful setting inspired by Tokyo’s refined aesthetic.

I’m so happy to see this added to the Kailua community. I will continue to frequent whenever...
