My husband's co-worker recommended this place to us, and after reading the Yelp reviews we decided to try it out. Everyone raved about their meat jun, a personal favorite of mine, saying it was the best they ever had.
I knew upon getting there, that it was a small little place and the Korean lady might be mad face so I was ready. The dining area was small, but it was clean. The lady greeted us, and had "angry face" on for a minute but after a while she warmed up.
I ordered the Special with bbq chicken, meat jun, and kalbi. My husband got the bbq plate with chicken, beef, and kalbi. They came with these big balls or rice wrapped in foil, and veggie sides of bean sprouts, seaweed, and kim chee. The sides were lacking to say the least; very small portions. The flavor of the beans were non-existent, but the seaweed and kim chee was pretty good. The bbq chicken was good, good flavor. The kalbi was nice too, nice sized portions actually. The bbq beef I didn't care for but my husband seemed to like it. And the meat jun... was pretty bomb.
I can't confidently say that it is the best ever, but it's right there at the top. I think I would have to try a few other places and that place again to confirm but that MEAT JUN IS ON POINT!!! You can tell they marinate it very well, because it is just dropping with flavor. The meat was very VERY soft and tender and there wasn't too much egg on it, the perfect ratio actually.
I recommend like the others to get it take out (I included the menu for your convenience), and make sure you eat it fresh for the best result. I had my leftover the next day, and while still good it wasn't as awesome as it was fresh. They accept phone orders and all major credit cards!
I will most definitely come back for that meat jun again. I've heard that the meat jun can be hit or miss, but I guess we will see. Even driving from Ewa I might consider making the trek and fighting the traffic just to get their...
Read moreOrdered the Bibimbap to go. I asked her if the chicken or beef was better, no response. I went with chicken, she asked if I wanted it spicy, At first I said sure, but then changed my mind and went with regular. At that point I let her know that I had never had it before, but was excited to try something new. She looked at me very skeptically and then asked if I liked vegetables. I said that I did enjoy vegetables, and paid for my food. I waited for it to come out, which didn't take too long, and she gave me a small container of kimchi. I took the bag, and drove home. I got home, opened the box, and grabbed a piece of chicken. It was stone cold and kind of gummy. I spit it out, and became concerned. Everything was stone cold... The egg was cold too, and the yolk was hard. It was inedible, and I was very frustrated. Perhaps I came in on an off day or something, but I don't enjoy paying for something, just to realize that I could have had a better experience at McDonalds. Unacceptable. Just to be clear, when I handed my wife the to go bag, she had it on her lap during the drive home, and her legs never got warm. I was intentionally...
Read moreFound this place on Reddit for good local recommendations. This is a tiny place where you never go in. You order take out ahead of time or right at the opened door. It seems to be super popular and well known and the award stickers in the window can probably attest to that.
The staff is very kind and the service was quite quick.
We had the kal bee and meat jun combination plate. We had no clue that meat jun was a beef fritter so we were going in blind. Both meats were sweet and were very tasty, but I think I would lean towards the meat jun if I had to only choose one. The sauce dripped into the rice below the meats and even made that taste better. The salads that come with the meal also were given some love instead of just plain cabbage being served.
Overall, my only negative is the place was quite pricy. Yes it’s Hawai’i so the cost is higher than the mainland, yes it short-ribs, but the inflation seems to have hit here pretty hard. Everything else about this place deserves...
