If I had an additional option, to give way less than 1 star, there would be no hesitation. I can barely describe how disheartened and disgusted I am by the treatment I recieved tonight (about 7:15 pm). Three veterans, myself, my husband and niece visited the O'Fallon location for the free Veterans Day appetizer or Dessert. Hitting up Longhorn on Veterans Day, has been a tradition for us, for the last few years. Upon being seated, the server asked if we were ready to order, and we proceeded to ask what the options were for vets. She reiterated what we knew, free app or dessert. We asked, just to be sure nothing has changed. Since we knew what we waited, we promptly ordered; The smokehouse wings, chocolate stampede, strawberries and cream shortcake and a Sprite. The server replied, you want the desserts later? We said no, now. The beverage, wings and desserts came out pretty quickly. We were partially done, when the server came by again. She asked, is this all you're having? We responded, yep. At this point, we were all semi annoyed because it felt like she had a slight attitude from the onset. We figured she was upset that we weren't ordering more items. She probably assumed that since we didn't rack up a bill, she wouldn't garner a decent tip from our table. At any rate, a minute later, the General Manager, Jeremy came by and said, we appreciate your service, but only allow one veteran per table to receive a free item. This time, I'll take care of the two most expensive items, and take 10% off the remaining items. We said ok. After processing what he said to us - none of it made sense. It was beyond evident, by his uncomfortabilty and standoff - ish demeanor that he, either didn't believe we were vets or he had some sort of issue with black people. I absolutely feel like it was both. A server walked by our table and I asked her to have the GM come back so we could speak. When we came back to the table, all three of us had our ID on the table, in case it was proof he wanted. I explained we've eaten off of Longhorns vet menu, for years, and that has never been explained or told to us. In addition, the server didn't mention it either. I showed him the website that we've used for years, that lead us to all participating restaurants on Veterans Day. He said they are not affiliated with that website - he said it's one vet per table and that corporate sent the email out today (on Veterans Day). At that point, he said he would take care of it this time. When our original server came with the check, we paid our $3.27 bill for a Sprite, and I asked for the GMs name. She showed me his name on the receipt, and we left. We did not tip, as we wanted out of there immediately. We were embarrassed, angry, insulted and very much so in disbelief. Jeremy and our server absolutely discriminated against us - ON Veterans Day of all days. No other vets in that restaurant had that message relayed to them - BECAUSE IT ISN'T TRUE. We typically have a blast on Veterans Day, every single year. Taking the day off to enjoy each other's company with good food has been such a tradition for us. It is ruined, stained forever. Longhorn, is this your new policy? One veteran per table? Vets can't sit together and talk about the days they spent serving our country. If they do, only one vet can take advantage of a free menu item meant for vets??? Please make it make sense? I'm a small business owner and attached to multiple veteran organizations - I am absolutely passing on this review. Your staff truly disrespected and challenged/mitigated the integrity of Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation New Dawn Veterans. Collectively, we've served in 5 contingencies, with 24 years of service between the three of us. This is shameful, and as long as Iive, I will never forget what happened to me and my...
Read moreI've eaten at this location on and off for the past 15+ years. Just ate here last week again. I'll keep this simple.
We are a unique bunch. We understand local laws and kitchen finances. One person in our party likes her steak barely cooked, nearly raw, she says "walk it over the grill". I like mine extremely well done, like "drop it in the grill and forget about it for 10 minutes". Every single time we happen to go out and order steak, it's a PITA. We know the routine, we know both sides. Same with every time we eat here as well, to be expected to some degree.
So, I was dining out with company and we had an over energetic waiter who i'll call 'Bob'. When Bob came by to take orders I informed him to put the rest of our guests orders in and come back to me later, and he outright refused and said he'd hold the orders until I was ready, he outright refused twice. Off to a good start. He came back and pressured me to order a third time, in which case I told Bob to put in the rest of the orders without mine (again), to which he seemed upset with but complied. During this time as I was looking at the menu for beer, the guests were telling Bob that if I ordered steak, that I wanted it extremely well, like Hockypuck it, basically crispy, zero juice kind of well. The kind of well that you almost never get because the kitchen doesn't want to waste food.
Bob came back and I eventually ordered a steak, and I ordered it well. I was explicit, informing him of how well it needs to be done. I specifically said" I will most likely send it back so save us both the trouble kind of well". That usually works, but it's like a story I have to tell every time I go out and eat steak or else I won't have it done the way I enjoy it in the USA. Bob said he would have them butterfly it. I'm sure he just wrote down "a little extra well".
Guess what? Yep. Wasted efforts. It came out juicy and well. To someone who maybe ordered "well", this would not be a problem. You see the problem. It wasn't butterflied either. I sent it back, to which Bob snickered (rude much dude?). Steak came out fine the second time, and a manager even came by to check and make sure it was as I ordered. Great. When we finished our meal, Bob asked us if we wanted dessert. We all declined. But he made a last comment, "Are you sure? I can burn the Ice Cream too for you." as he walked away with our money. Wow, Bob. So because you don't know how to listen and do what customers ask you to do the first time, you have to be a dbag?
It could just be this location but this guy and my experiences in the past has put me off to this place. The food is great, when it's done right, and you don't have your dining experience with company ruined by an incompetent waiter.
TLDR; So my final rating is 1 star for the food. If you do go here, order a steak between normal rare-medium well ratios and order all of your food together and immediately, and God forbid don't talk or enjoy each other's company until you get your order in when the wait staff...
Read moreWent in today for Mother’s Day with my husband and our kids hoping to enjoy my Mother’s Day here with a good meal since losing my own mom and having not celebrated in years. The lady at the front desk was friendly, but our server named Madelynn gave us a very poor experience. First issue is we were rushed through taking our order and given an unfriendly attitude. The extras I asked for on food items were forgotten. I’m sure it’s because she rushed though our order smh. Had to ask for things that were automatically supposed to be given like straws for our drinks. She at no point ever offered refills the time we were there. So at some point we decided it was time to go after not enjoying our experience and our toddler getting restless. I asked if we could have boxes to go and the bill please. She changed her attitude to a more lively one then as if she was excited I had asked for boxes so she could get us out. We also watched her interact in a more inviting manner with her other tables that were Caucasian. I’m not sure if color is the reason for her unfriendly mannerisms, but hopefully to God not. She came back with the boxes I asked for and had the check book laid right inside our open to go box 🤮. She was also taking our plates off the table and grabbed my fresh salad I was going to box up and stacked it with the dirty plates. So I stopped her and told her that was my salad. She was about to hand it back after having it under filthy dishes and I told her I wanted a new salad. Now I had certain things removed from my salad from when I first ordered. She came back 1 minute later (too fast) with the salad + modifications and dressing on top even though I was about to box it smh. I concluded she took the old salad back only to act as if was a new one with modifications that quick with dressing on it. As if her being dry and rushed off by her wasn’t enough smh. I finally asked another server for the manager and he came to our table promptly. The manager who’s name I believe was Jeremy was very pleasant and understanding. He offered to give us an employee discount on our meal. He even acknowledged me for Mother’s Day which was kind because while sitting at the table with our kids the whole time our server never did. I hope Madelynn can get training on customer service and cleanliness because clearly she doesn’t care. But there’s no training for just being a good person and being kind as that should come naturally. I’ll be returning to Long Horn as I’ve been a customer for many years, but not to this...
