Panda Gourmet — Restaurant in Oak Creek

Not to be confused with Panda Express, Panda Gourmet is a cut above some other local Chinese establishments. We went there 8/18/2022, the ambiance is a bit lacking and not really a big eating area, just big enough for about 30 to 35 people (with 4 to a booth and all tables occupied). Now, the good part..Food was authentic Chinese more the Hunan, Mandarin, Mongolian and Cantonese and not so much offerings in the (my fav) Szechuan! Got an appetizer platter (Pu Pu platter) for $16.95, it was expensive, but very tasty and would be a meal in itself. The other good part, the 3 entrees, we ordered, varied from $11.95 to $13.95 and included; Chicken with cashew nuts (tasty with lots of cashews), Sesame chicken (smaller cuts of meat and the outer Crispy coating, I like, was lacking but tasty with abundance of sauce and a few broccoli florets) and lastly, one of my favorites, Mongolian Beef (plenty of tender beef slices with onions and scallions and a tasty sauce), although very good does not surpass San Dong (on Layton) but is a close second. I think the serving sizes were a bit bigger that other restaurants and we had lots of leftovers. The price, $59.00, was surprisingly reasonable for the large appetizer platter, 3 entrees and 1 soda and we left full and impressed with this strip mall gem. We placed an online order tonight for Mothers Day and were told it would be ready in 20 minutes. I arrived at the restaurant and it was packed with people that were waiting for their pickup orders. I paid and was told it would be ready in a few minutes. Then as I was waiting, I overheard the cashier tell a customer that they had a problem with the online ordering process and a 30 minute delay was to be expected. In reality, I was waiting in the restaurant for 45 minutes in addition to the 20 minutes that I was told when I ordered.

Instead of being silent, the cashier should have told each customer of the problem before taking their money, giving the customers the opportunity to cancel their order.

I understand that problems happen, but there were no apologies made to anyone, no offers of discounts to orders made for the trouble. Employees were ignoring customers and not making eye contact with anyone. Customers were very upset.

I do miss the lunch buffet Panda Gourmet had available until COVID19 ruined the entire restaurant business industry. I do understand why it has not returned, with the rampant food cost inflation currently ruining dining experiences across the U.S.A., but particularly in Wisconsin and the greater Milwaukee area where bad policy has exasperated inflation for consumers and small businesses.

Service and product of Panda Gourmet are 5 star. Always a friendly and attentive staff.

The atmosphere has changed from the pre-COVID19 days. Panda Gourmet in the pre-COVID19 days was a happening must go place. It still is great service and food, but that energy from pre-COVID19 days has not returned.

I recommend Panda Gourmet over all other Panda in the name restaurants. Panda Gourmet is quality food for the hungry. Will return for another taste of the best...
