Cozy atmosphere, even outside. Even though the restaurant front to the street was small in downtown oak park, they had done a lot with it. Easy to imagine that if it was nicer weather, dining outside would be enjoyable. Inside was much the same. Tastefully decorated, nothing overbearing on the eyes, and comfortable to be in even though the place was quite full and a bit noisy. We were greeted quickly by our waiter and we ordered drinks.... which he just as quickly forgot. Not that he forgot our drinks, he forgot speaking to us about them all together. He was apologetic, and drinks arrived quickly. The quality of the drinks was lacking quite a bit. Watered down, and the cosmo appeared to be nothing more than juice with crushed ice. Letâs try wine next time. But the next time our waiter forgot our drinks again. The waiter explained that the dishes were smaller plates, and designed to be shared. First was the hummus with a rolled up homemade tortilla. We canât begin to describe how delicious this hummus was. Slightly spicy, and so savory. We had saved every last little bit to eat with our next dishes. Next was scallops served with black rice in a creamy white sauce. This was another high point in our meal. A taste that was a bit unfamiliar... we couldnât quite put our fingers on what it tasted like but what a combination of flavor and texture! It was amazing I tell you .. incredible! Edible art! My wife says the night after she went to sleep not thinking about me, our children, our dogs, bills, the house, no... she laid awake in bed thinking if the scallops and rice. I'm jealous. Next was the duck breast. Which came in what I would call âthanksgiving styleâ, and I may just be saying that because it came with cranberry sauce on top. The meat was perfectly cooked, sliced, and presented. Wasnât quite Jessicaâs cup o tea, but I found it to be tender and quite good. The 4th and final dish was the asada steak. The steak had an odd presentation. Served over two large tomato slices, and underneath a pile of very thinly sliced frites. All of these were good separate, but not together. Overall a positive experience with very interesting food. A place we will be...
Read moreThis is the first time in this restaurant. It was recommended by a friend. I was hoping to have a great time and good food. But everything went down into draing. Question: Who foult is it? the person who told me to lower the volume of my phone? The restaurant, because this pace between the tables is very close. Or maybe this town does not like Latinos. When I walk into the restaurant. I felt the look of the waitresses. I felt not friendly welcome. I was the only Latino customer at that moment. For 1 second, I felt like something was going to happen? But I looked around and I said, "What could go wrong?" The waitresses give me a table next to a couple. They were talking kind of loud, and I could hear the conversation. Keep in mind the distance from me to them. It's about a foot and a 1/2. So I can hear everything. I don't like to hear anybody's conversation, especially in a public place. I pull my phone. And I started watching videos. Believe me, I'm a person to understand that, If your phone is loud, you have to bring it down because you know there's another, costumer have the right to space in comfort. Well, this lady told me to lower my volume. There's nothing wrong when you ask someone to lower the valume on the phone. But there's also a way to ask the right way, She told me to lower the volume? Because it's really loud but in a different tone of voice. Before this happened, I can hear them talking everything, And I'm sorry but the guy who was next to her. I feel sorry for him because he was just talking. You can hear that she was not into the conversation. That's why i don't want it to be close to conversations. Because you can figure out things. What's going on around you? By the way, the food that I ordered was not that good and the service, I didn't have a chance to try it because I had to leave. I make my order to go. And I had to leave. I felt that if I stayed a little bit longer, She was about to yell at me. And I don't wanna to go in to a argument, so I prefer to leave. Chris Rock, once he said,"Do not fight in front of white people." So my question once again, Who is...
Read moreThe vegetarian menu items were separated on the menu, making them easy to find. The food was great overall, although we we dined in mid-July and the menu featured acorn squash with mushroom risotto and truffles, which seems to suggest that they don't change the menu to reflect the season and its peak ingredients. Still, the dish is excellent, so one can give them a pass for sticking with it year-round. The cauliflower and chile relleno were both worthwhile, though the latter was overly rich with its generous heap of goat cheese and burrata.
The service, at least on this night, was awful. The hostess and general staff were polite and pleasant, but our server, a middle-aged macho man, was utterly obnoxious. He chided us for not ordering alcohol ("This table don't know how to party?"); grumpily looked up and reported the non-alcoholic drinks, which were not listed on the menu (for the record, Topo Chico and one flavor of Jarritos); snapped at his staff when the QR code menu would not work on anyone's phone; began aggressively clearing our table while we still had food on the table; and curtly asked us to "move to the bar" because "other people are waiting" literally two minutes after we paid the bill, when we had been there for exactly 55 minutes. On top of that he sent our bill to the wrong table (the friendly couple kindly passed it over to us) and could be seen talking down to the staff, ordering them around and creating confusion (as when an amiable woman came to take our order and he directed her to the table next to ours, even though they had arrived well after us).
Overall the food was worth eating if you're in the area, though not worth travelling for, but the service left a...
